Even if you see them, you may not know which locations to visit, preventing you from reaching the next clue if you don’t know the paths. Since this quest can quickly become frustrating and may take a few hours to solve, a guide can help you through it.

How To Start If Walls Could Speak

Once the quest becomes available, you’ll find some graffiti in Colony 9.Go to the Command Centerand leave through the north exit. You’ll travel west, climb the ladder, and encounter the graffiti to your left. Examine it, and you’ll receive the following riddle as your first clue:

“On high plain dusking, a ruined keep, a mere step beyond, the gates of hell sleep.”

While you can use the quest tracer for most quests, this one won’t show you the path to reach it, making it challenging to solve the puzzle. However, the game does help by havinga magnifying glass appear on the mapif you get close enough to the clue.

You can’t finish this quest until you have access to the last areaof the game. If you don’t know which one’s the last, it’s the fifth one.

How To Solve The Second Clue

The clue hints at an area with a royal throne and black rock faces, making the Black Mountains your location. You’ll need to look for a former stone castle to finish this one.

You’ll need to get far into the Black Mountains to reach this location. Continue through the path as normal until you reachthe Mt. Nagul Viewing Deck Landmark.

Build the Ether Slide to the east, or head north and hop across the rocks.

Don’t worry if you fall, since you’ll return to the Mt. Nagul Viewing Deck, allowing you to try again.

After hopping across the rocks, climb the vines nearby and the next set to the east. After climbing up, jump down to the east, and you’ll be in front of the gates where the Ether Slide leads.

From the front gates, travel northeast andrepair the Ether Lift, which requirestwo Lacquer Stones, one Black Crystal, one Photonium, and one Ether Cylinder. You’ll automatically have Photonium from the required Ether Lift Research quest you finished earlier.

As for the other materials, you can useyour upgraded X-Readerto find various Black Crystals and Ether Cylinders around the area, and the Lacquer Stone is a standard ore pickup in the Black Mountains. If you need to look for some, go to the beginning of the area and look for ore.

Go up the Ether Lift andjump up the ledge to the right. Drop down the east side of it, and you’ll encounter the graffiti with your third clue:

“A single ascension, four fearless flings, light rays' guidance to whence all springs.”

How To Solve The Third Clue

The third clue refers to how you mustuse four Ether Slides to reach the location, using the light as a guide. It’ll end at the first location in the game, the Vermilion Woods. Before going through this section, you’ll need the following items to build the four Ether Slides and an Ether Lift.

Where You Can Find Them

4 Wool Rocks

Anore pickup in Yesterdale. You can find them around the entrance and the area before you reach Colony 9.

4 Noise Bites

Anore pickup from the Aurora Shelf, which you can find near mountains and the edges of the map. The lower level near the elevator also works.

2 Flake Crystals

Anore pickup from Vermilion Woodsis near the game’s starting point. You should look along the rock formations in that area.

Youautomatically get this when you complete the Ether Lift Researchquest.

4 Black Shards

You’ll find them throughout the game, sosearch for them or use an upgraded X-Reader. If you struggle to find them, check along the edges of maps and anywhere with black fog. Ether Cylinders are easy to see from a distance, thanks to their green light.

After collecting everything,fast-travel to the Overlook Park Landmark in Yesterdale. Go to the west and jump into the pit to the water below.

Travel west in the wateruntil you enter a new room. Climb onto the shore to the west, and you’ll find a location to build an Ether Lift. Take it to the next location, then build the Ether Slide directly west of there.

After repairing the previous slide,go south to another Ether Slide repair locationand use it. Travel south through a burnt-down village and continue to another Ether Slide at the south-most point.

You’ll encounter a Fog Rift, sotake out the enemies before you continue.

Go southwest from there and build another Ether Slide. At the following location, hop down the cliff to the west, and you’ll find the graffiti to the south with your final clue:

“Eyes high at the gate, an old kingdom’s fall, eyes at the ground, the king’s last recall.”

How To Solve The Final Clue

The last one refers to alarge gate in the Ragmos Desolation. If you found the Fallen Gate of Ulcaria Landmark, you can fast-travel to it, and you’ll reach the final part of the quest.

Travel toward the west side of the structure, and you’ll eventually reach a hill.Travel north down the hill, and loop around the wall to the westuntil you’re traveling southwest away from the structure. You should encountera stone archway standing on its own.
