If you have spent enough time on the internet, you may have picked up on a trope regarding bards. Despite their charisma, or perhaps because of it, bards have non-human proclivities. They may shower their affections on dragons and other magical monsters for reasons beyond mortal understanding.

This trope appears inThe Witcher 3quest, A Bard’s Beloved. In it, Geralt finds a bard cowering from his “beloved” in a deep, dark cave in Skellige. This quest isn’t particularly hard to complete, but it can be an easy one to miss considering how well tucked away the bard in question is.

Where To Start A Bard’s Beloved

The cave isby the lake between the Druid’s Camp andPalisade Fast Travel points. It’s to thenortheast of Palisade,on a road leading away from the lake. Walk into the cave tofind the bard.

Walk into the cave until you reach a shallow pool decorated with several incomplete skeletons. A water hag, the man’s beloved, will talk to Geralt andask him for a rhyme. You canmake an attemptor skip straight to violence.

In what should only be a relief, you willhave to fight the water hag. There is no way to romance it.

Geralt slashes at a blue-skinned water hag in a dark, flooded cave.

Killing The Water Hag

This part of the quest should not be too difficult. This is an ordinary water hag, not a named one like Abaya fromContract: Muire D’yaeblen. As with other water hags,be mindful of mud ballsbeing thrown at you andtheir ability to swim underwater.

You can counter the water hag’s ability to dive underwater bythrowing Northern Wind bombsto freeze it in place. You can also useYrden if you know where it will resurface.

The quest endsafter you kill it.The bard will have escaped by the time you reach the entrance of the cave.
