Up until this moment, the bosses you’ve faced haven’t been as challenging as this one. Zhang Rang is fought at the end of the sixth Main Battlefield mission, the Fall of the Corrupted Eunuch. By default, Cao Cao will be with you, but you should consider another Follower or seek help online to beat him.

Zhang Rang Boss Fight Strategy

As soon as the fight begins, you will see you’re upagainst six or seven copies of Zhang Rang. His copies are much weaker than the real Zhang Rang, but they must be killed firstbecause they are providing multiple buffs to the real boss.

The copies will use a mixture ofranged lightning attacks and physical strikeswith a sword. You’ll see immediately that lightning balls will come at youfrom almost every angle. They can be a lot to deal with, but you cantime your deflectionsinto them as they travel, and the timing is lenient.

This is wherehaving Followers will help youout immeasurably.

If you’re lucky, your Followers will main a beeline to thereal Zhang Rang and keep him occupied. This is why it’s beneficial to have more than just Cao Cao with you, giving not just the copies one more target, but also laying a smackdown on Zhang Rang.

The more copies you kill, themore Spirit Gauge damage you doand the more buffs you remove from the real Zhang Rang.

Trying to dodge his lightning attacks is not recommended. You shouldtry blocking or deflecting thembecause dodging will leave you too exposed and push your Spirit into the red, leaving you susceptible to being guard broken.

If you happen to get Zhang Rang’s attention, he will createwhirlwinds of lightning around himself, and he will spam it. They can hit you multiple times and debuff you if you get caught in the attack, so you should deflect or block this attack if you can’t escape.Try to move away from him and focus on the copies.

The copies willuse one Critical Strike in which they lungeat you from across the room.

The timing to deflect this is generous and if you deflect it,you can one-shot the copies with a fatal blow.

you’re able to hurt Zhang Rang without killing his copies, but this isn’t recommended due to how long it takes. Instead, you should try totackle the fight in the following order, sticking to a simple pattern:

You should find that you’llonly have to kill two rounds of copiesas you fight this battle.

Weapons with wide swings, like theslashing spear and straight sabres, are excellent in this fight.

Crowd control is key in this battle. Slashing spear weapons will give youwide swings to hurt several copiesat once.

Play around with other weapons you have to see what works.

By the time you’ve killed all of his copies, you’ll have thereal Zhang Rang close to being stance brokensince he takes so much Spirit Gauge damage from each copy you dispatch.

When you’re close to breaking Zhang Rang’s guard, keep hitting him withnormal attacks to get your Spirit Gauge maxed outand deal the final stance-breaking strike, or fatal strike, with full Spirit for maximum damage.
