Wo Long Fallen Dynasty - Zhang Liang stands in front of our character taunting

There is something of a gimmick with this first boss fight, in that he has two phases to deal with. You might struggle, but you don’t actually have to fully beat him in the second phase. To this end, it’s more of a survival and battle against time phase until you get a prompt during the fight.

Phase One Battle Strategy

There are two main phases to this fight.First, you’ll have to deal with his normal attacks, butyou’ll have an NPC ally with you in the Blindfolded Boy.He will do well to take some aggro from you, butdon’t rely on him too much.

To begin with, Zhang Liang’s swings areslow and extremely telegraphed. This means you can comfortably attempt to deflect his attacks to do some Spirit Gauge damage and push him towards breaking his stance.

If you’re not entirely to grips with deflecting, you can dodge and block his attacks when required.

In this phase, Zhang Liang will usetwo different Critical Strikes. These strikes, like all enemy criticals, are telegraphed by them glowing red and swinging towards you for a massive attack.

In one critical strike, he will charge at you and then there will be a tiny delay when he reaches you before he swings. The timing on this one is tricky, so if you may’t hit the parry, just try and dodge out of the way instead.

Critical Strikes can be deflected if you get the timing, otherwise, they cannot be blocked.

His second Critical Strike will be used when you’re close to him.He will stand still and charge up a mighty swing. It will be one swift hit, and it comes out fairly fast. When you see him doing this, try and parry or dodge out of the way.

Other than these attacks, you caneasily block a lot of what he throws at you.Keep attacking and using your charged attack when you have positive Spirit to deal big damage.

The best way to beat him in this phase, due to his slow and easy-to-predict swings, is tomaster deflecting his attacks.

The window on deflecting is lenient,so the timings are very much in your favour.

It’s good practice to do a flurry of attacks and finish it with a charged hit since you’ll have gained Spirit by landing hits.

He might roll away, but you can sometimes catch him as he’s backing off. Keep attacking and don’t worry too much about using any spells.Melee damage and deflecting are the tickets to victory here.

Phase Two Battle Strategy

You’ll be by yourself when the second phase begins since your NPC friend will be out of the action.Zhang Liang will transformand if you lose to him here, you’ll have to go from the first phase and do the fight all over again. This part of the fight is a bit of a nasty test to see how long you can survive.

Every attack in the game, even elemental attacks and projectiles, can be deflected and this will fully negate damage.

On the flip side, not all attacks can be blocked.

You don’t have to take his whole health bar down. The Blindfolded Boy will talk about buying time to use a special amulet, which the game doesn’t explain, that he meansyou will get access to your Divine Beast to summon in fights.

You have to keep getting afew hits on Zhang Liang to build this up, and when you’ve got it, using it will end the fight.

In his demonic form,Zhang Liang will have new attacks and some new appendages he’ll swing at youthat has a ton of range.

As soon as the fight starts,he might charge at you with a Critical Strike, but this is rare. Most likely, he will do a hugespinning attack to catch you trying to get close to him.

You should expect to do this in a few runs since it’s a bit difficult balancing his new move set and trying to be aggressive. His new moves are all blockable, other than his elemental earth skill which will fire rocks in a line at you.

This will damage you through your guard, so be aware. One of his critical strikes is a continuous flurry of strikes, and this is his easiest to deflect.

If you’re struggling, you can alwaysfarm the enemies near the final Battle Flag for Genuine Qi and level up.

Keep your guard up and try not to get caught out by his multi-hit attacks.Again, you’re able to do a few hits, back off, or use a charged hit, and then repeat.

Use deflections to create openings and you will build your Divine Beast gauge this way. When your gauge is full, there will be a promptto summon a Divine Beast and this will end the fight when you press the buttons.
