With the knowledge that Harvey is still teaching at Montwise, Osvald makes a dogged pursuit. This chapter has it all - secret passageways, thrilling revelations, and a taunting villain with far too much ego for his own good. Here’s everything you’ll need to know to be successful and come out to the other end without too much trouble.

Town Phase: Montwise

After the flashback, Osvald decides that the target of his search should be theMontwise library. Before you head there, though, check out the Item Shop- there are some good equipment pieces to pick up here for mages if you have the leaves for them. If you haven’t been scouring the globe for strong weapons, they may prove very useful here.

Head to the library when you are ready. Your task inside is touse Osvald’s Scrutinize Path Action to find out more about the libraryand to see where Harvey could be hiding. Before getting on with that, though, head all the way to the right on the upper floor and walk along the top of the stacks to find a chest containing a Lapis Rod.

The three targets for scrutiny are aScholar on the left side of the upper levelandtwo Scholars on either side of the first basement level. From these individuals, you’ll learn that there are rumors of a secret passageway in the library and that Harvey spends a lot of time on the second basement level.

Head to thesecond basement level (the bottom floor)and approach theladder on the left- if the cutscene doesn’t trigger, just walk around the ladder until it does. The scene will reveal the entrance to this chapter’s dungeon, the Underground Laboratory.

Dungeon Phase: Underground Laboratory

When you enter this dungeon, head all the way to the right and look in the small room here. The red chest contains14,000 leaves. Two rooms to the left, there are two chests that each containBottled Nightmares. The next long room has a chest containing a rareFire Soulstone (L).

These large Soulstones are somewhat hard to get -consider saving this find for use in the quest in Flamechurchthat involves repairing the stained glass window with Soulstones.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Harvey’s Secret Lab

With all of the chests obtained, follow the linear path to a room filled with large vats:Harvey’s laboratory. After a short scene, you’ll be thrust into a battle.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Grieving Golem boss fight about to use ultimate round

Daggers, Axes, Staves, Ice

This battle isn’t too hard - the key is not letting yourself get overwhelmed.

Your first target should be theDeformed Creature, which is the aquatic-looking one at the front. This enemy can inflictPoisonon your entire party, which is annoying and will eat up your turns with healing duties. Focus it down by targeting its weaknesses.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Grieving Golem

Next up, take on the bird - theCobbled Creature- and then, finally, theSynthesized Creature. Once you start eliminating these creatures from the battle, you’ll have a much easier time of it.

For winning, you’ll get someNuts, which are very useful for increasing your characters' stats. You’ll get aFortifying Nut(physical attack), aLight Nut(speed), and aMagic Nut(elemental attack).Your Magic Nuts should almost always go to Osvaldas magic is his main method of attacking, but give the Fortifying Nut to someone else. The Light Nut would benefit anyone, but especially those you use with the Thief class, as Surprise Attack gets better with higher speed.

After the fight, it’s only a few steps forward until the next fight, and this is the boss.Return to the save point and heal before taking on the boss.

Grieving Golem can be a tough fight - it has a ton of health and willbegin the fight with the ability to act twice a turn. In addition to that, it has amix of physical and elemental attacks, so it’s hard to shore up specific defenses. It has some physical attacks that also remove some of your BP, so be wary of that and consider being more liberal with Energizing Pomegranates than you usually would.

Don’t worry about the huge HP number there,it’s more like 55,000 HP or so- the fight will end in a non-standard fashion once you get the boss to a low enough health level.

One of the Grieving Golem’s tricks is to inflict adark fire statuson your party members. This fire will stick around for a few turns, making the character suffer aHP, SP, or BP losswhenever they take an action - this will happen even if the action is Defending. The HP loss especially is quite significant, so attempt to stay healed at all times.

The main gimmick of the fight, however, is thatafter being Broken, the Grieving Golem can shuffle its weaknesses around. If one of the new weaknesses is one you’ve exploited before, you’ll have its icon visible, but if they are all new, they’ll be hidden from you.

Good ways to identify new weaknesses, other than using a Scholar’s Analyze skill, is to use aScholar’s Elemental Barrage(to try and weed out Fire, Lightning, and Ice weaknesses) or theArmsmaster’s Sixfold Strike, if you have that class unlocked (to identify all weapon type weaknesses).

When the Grieving Golem gets its purple aura and starts charging, it will actuallyact five turns on the next round. This makes it imperative towork out and then exploit its weaknessesas soon as possible. On this turn, it will just use its normal attacks, but five of them can be very tough to deal with, especially if it spreads around moreDissolving Darknessfires.

Once the Golem has been damaged enough, it will useStampedeto increase its Break Points and unlock another version of the purple aura, where the Golem lets out a sharp cry. This time, it will useRampage, which is amulti-hit attack that deals damage to the entire party. It’s hard to whittle down its 13 Break Points before this happens, so be sure to heal up before it gets the chance to attack.

The Grieving Golem isimmune to Blind, so don’t try to use this to avoid its physical attacks.

When it is very low on health, the Golem’s body will start to ‘crumble,‘which shuffles its weaknesses around a final time. This time, the weaknesses are set - it will be weak to all weapon types and no magic attacks. Use your best physical attacks in this phase, or simply wait. The Golem will cry, which heals Osvald, and thenDisintegrate, ending the fight.

After the scenes that follow, the chapter will effectively be over - all that’s left is Osvald’s final chapter, in which he finally confronts Harvey directly.
