One of the stops on Ochette’s very perilous and important journey inOctopath Traveler 2is to find Tera, one of the three Creatures of Legend. Tera is a volcanic creature with a rage-filled past who lives beneath the ground in Crackridge, though Ochette isn’t sure of that fact when she first arrives in the town.

Completing this chapter, as will all of Ochette’s beast-recruiting chapters, will unlock another friend that Ochette can summon in battle, and he’s a very powerful one, at that. It’s worth doing this chapter as soon as you feel able to handle the challenges it offers.
Town Phase: Crackridge
Fueled by nothing other than jerky and animal instinct, Ochette is sure that there is someone in town that knows where Tera is. Sure enough, the first task of this chapter is tohead to the inn, where Ochette will meet some townspeople outside. It soon becomes obvious that Tera is nearby, but none of the townspeople are brave enough to lead you to him.
After the scenes, head to the Weapon Shop, which is in the middle of town down some stairs. You’ll meet a boy here,Pom, who promises to take you to Tera if you find him someButtermeep Jerky- the actual item you need isAromatic Jerky, which is acquired by Capturing and then Preparing a Buttermeep.

Buttermeep are found in the Western Crackridge Wilds, just outside town. You can encounter them at any time of day - just run around until you find some andCaptureone to get the jerky.
Once you have the Aromatic Jerky, return to Pom in Crackridge and use Ochette’s nighttime Path Action to Befriend him.

With that, you can nowenter the Path to the Bed of the Titanvia the long ladder down to the east of town.
Dungeon Phase: Path To The Bed Of The Titan
This dungeon is very vertical but also mercifully short.
Headdown the first set of stairsto the right and go grab the chest nearby for anEnergizing Pomegranate (M). The path forward is pretty linear until you reach a wooden platform with two ladders leading down and a red chest with aKnight’s Greatbowinside.

Take thelefthand ladderdown first - it leads to a narrow path that ends with aProtective Bracelet. Now, return to the wooden platform and take therighthand ladder. The chest to the right of the save point contains aFire Amulet, which reduces fire damage for the wearer - this will definitely come in handy against this chapter’s boss.
Save your gameand continue on down the final ladder to reach the Bed of the Titan. Head to the left on the next screen to encounter Tera, finally.

Tera is a very tough customer - he attacks withpowerful physical attacksand can target the entire party at once.
After being Broken once,Tera will harden his body, which will eliminate one of his weaknesses, seemingly at random. He also has the abilitiesSneezeandBig Sneezeat his disposal, which willtemporarily completely remove one or two allies from the battle at random, respectively. Hopefully, this attack will not blow away any of the characters crucial to your strategy.

One of Tera’s more dangerous abilities isCoiling Lava, which gives him a nice three-turn buff. If you have abilities that remove enemy buffs, such asOchette’s Abating Orb, use them to avoid massive damage.
Dealing with Tera is simple in theory, but there will be an element of luck involved thanks to his ability to get rid of weaknesses and outright remove some of your allies from battle. Abilities thattarget his weaknesses and strike multiple timeswill be very useful - Throné’sHP Thief, Temenos’sMystical Staff, and Osvald’sIcewind when buffed by Advanced Magic or Alephan’s Wisdom. Thanks to his proclivity for party-wide damage, having Hikari or anyone with the Warrior sub-job usingVengeful Bladewill help reduce Tera’s Break Points a lot.

Further into the battle, Tera will useSearing Earth. Not only will this remove yet another weakness, but it will summon afiery aurato the battle. This willdeal damage to your entire party every single turn, meaning you’ll need far more healing power than usual to keep up and avoid death. For this reason, having aClericaround is a great idea -Heal Woundswill basically neutralize this move.
You’re forced to have Pom as Ochette’s companion in this fight, but this isn’t a terrible thing! He cangrant the entire party a defense boost for a few turns, which is great. Have Ochette summon Pom at all times.

When he’s low enough on health, Tera will stop being able to attack, and Ochette will say that it’s time to Capture him. Justuse Capture as you would with any other monster at this point- you will add Tera to your roster of monsters permanently. His attack is very powerful and causes bothStaff and Fire damage, but canonly be usedonce per battle andonly at a full boost.
With that battle over, Ochette has another of the three Creatures of Legend recruited and ready for the Night of the Scarlet Moon. If you’re following the recommended level order as far as chapters go, there’s onlyGlacisleft.
