In this fight, Sun Jian will be transformed into a demon tiger, befitting his Tiger of Jiangdong moniker. You will be joined by his children, Sun Ce and Sun Quan, who will work as excellent distractions during the fight against the demon form that used to be their father. Be prepared for poison, and a lot of AoE swipes in this fight.

Sun Jian Boss Fight Strategy

Sun Jian transforms into a demon tiger, giving himincredible speed that he uses to dart and repositionaround the small boss arena. His most dangerous attacks will come from his tail, with these strikes often being his most-used and spammed attacks throughout the fight.

The good news is that his tail swings, stabs, and fabulous backflipsare easy to deflect. Many of his attacks have several hits to them, which is both good and bad, depending on how you look at it.

Sometimes, Sun Jian takes a while to recover and use his next attack after a tail swing.

You shouldexploit these windows to deal damage.

This is good because it means several attacks and animations will haveattack frames on them, making it much easier for the game to register that you are deflecting an attack, instead of being tricked out by awkward timing.

When we say “attack frames”, we mean thatmost or every part of the animationthat plays while Sun Jian is striking during certain moveswill hurt you if you come in contact with it.

Deflecting into these attacks, instead of away from them, will most likely end in yoursuccessfully deflectingand dealing Spirit Gauge damage.

The game has given you a bit of practice for this boss fight early on since it throws so many tiger demon enemies at you during each mission. Sun Jian has asimilar flurry of strikesthat the standard tiger demons do, which you should be able to easily deflect.

The timing isn’t as fast, but it ends in a slamming hit, which provides theperfect opening to deal some damage. Sun Jian has aweakness to electric-based Wizardrysince the Virtue element tied to him is Earth, which you’re able to see when he uses poison attacks.

The Wood Virtue, which pertains to lightning spells, trumps Earth in the rock-paper-scissors element chart in Wo Long.

If you get too far away from Sun Jian, he will choose to perform two extremely large-radius tail swipes, covering around him, or he will lunge forward for a nasty grab attack. Because of this, you should try andstay in close quarters when fighting.

If you’re taking too much damage in this fight, you should try and tweak your armour togear towards physical damage reduction.Sun Jian doesn’t use magical attacks other than infusing his strikes with Poison, but the damage from it is negligible.

Because of this, blocking is a safe strategyin this fight.

Critical Strikes

As far as we’ve seen, Sun Jian only has one Critical Strike, and it is rarely used. The one we’ve seen has an extremelylong wind-up to catch you out.

You’ll know it’s coming because Sun Jian willstab his tail into the groundand hold it there for about two or three seconds before swinging upwards.

If this connects,it will be a grab attack, and you’ll get juggled a little bit before he throws you to the ground.

This grab attack does a ton of damage.

If you don’t fancy your chances with the awkward timing, you should get away from it as soon as you see him stab his tail into the floor.

At half HP, he will power up andinfuse his attacks with poison. As we’ve said earlier, this isn’t a problem and you shouldn’t ever have to worry about the poison debuff being the difference between winning or losing this fight.

Poison infusion lasts for the rest of the fight and triggers when you get him to half HP.

While enraged,he will do a spinning somersault, propelling himself forward. This movehits multiple times but is easy enough to deflectsince the whole animation has attack frames. Simplydodge into the attack when he’s close, and you’ll hit the deflection.

You might find thatstance-breaking Sun Jian is difficultin this fight, but don’t feel disheartened. With the combined efforts of you, Sun Ce, and Sun Quan, you’ll do plenty of damage to him to whittle his HP down in no time. As ever, if you need to heal, let yourFollowers take over while you recuperate.
