This final chapter has a recommended level of 45, as the other final chapters do, and not without good reason - the challenges faced by Ochette in this chapter are immense, and her final boss is one of the hardest in the game.

Town Phase: Beasting Village

After the initial cutscene in which Ochette greets her fellow Beastlings, head up to the cliff on the western side of town to meet up with Juvahonce more. After this scene, make your way south to thePath to the Tombs of the Wardenbeasts, likely for the first time since Ochette’s first chapter.

Head south a little- there will now be a path to the west in this area that wasn’t here before. Take it, and you’ll be in theSummit of Strife. Enter this new area and take a few steps to the left to start another cutscene in which Juvah will explain what the Night of the Scarlet Moon actually is. A few more scenes will follow, and you’ll be thrust into a battle.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Ochette Returning to Beasting Village

Make sure you’rehealed upbefore heading in! There are three consecutive battles to contend with and while they are easy individually, going in weakened is risky.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Tera fighting Shadowy Monsters

Daggers, Axes, Lightning, Light

The first battle in this sequence is againsttwo Shadowy Horse Flies. These have very low HP, so they shouldn’t pose a threat - they can inflict Blindness, though, so be on the lookout for that.

The second fight, againstthree Shadowy Furious Fungoids, is a bit trickier than the previous. They’re still not that strong, though - liberal usage of multi-target attacks should see you through very quickly.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Ice Bridge created by Glacis

The third fight is againsta Shadowy Horse Fly, a Shadowy Furious Fungoid, and a Shadowy Peek-a-Boo. The former enemies are as weak as they were in the previous fights, but the Peek-a-Boo is quite tough. It can hit the entire party for a big chunk of damage, and it’s easy to get complacent. Keep your healing up.

You may have noticed that all of these enemies areweak to Light attacks- having Clerics and an Arcanist in your party will let you exploit this weakness handily.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Taking the long route in Stormy Cape

After beating the final wave of Shadowy enemies, you’ll be allowed to roam again. Head to the west to continue, through Verdant Wood.

Dungeon Phase: Verdant Wood & Stormy Cape

When you enter this area, a cutscene will play out in which Ochette summons Tera to deal with some shadow enemies. After this, you’re able to proceed.

You cannot flee from the battles in this area! You’re up against Shadowy enemies, the same as you fought in the previous area. If you’re annoyed by the encounter rate, consider equipping the Scholar’sEvasive Maneuverssupport skill.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Malamaowl Boss Fight

From the entrance, move to the left and pick up theEnergizing Pomegranate (L)from the first chest. The rest of this area is short and linear - press on until you reach Stormy Cape, where Glacis will create a bridge of ice for you.

You cantake the ice bridge if you want a shorter time spent in the area, as it’s also filled with inescapable and annoying random encounters, but you’ll miss out on the treasure that you’ll get from taking the long route, which may be helpful for this chapter’s boss fight. If you do decide to take the shortcut, you can come back to this area after the chapter to grab the treasures.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Charging and shields in the Malamaowl boss fight

If you decide against the shortcut, head up the stairs to the back of the screen. When you reach a slope to the left just before a rope bridge, take the slope to get theAxe of the Conqueror. Return to the rope bridge, picking up theRevitalizing Jamjust before it.

Cross the rope bridges to the west side of the area. At the next fork in the road, take the left to get theTornado Bow, and then continue on until you can take another left, which leads to anEmpowering Lychee (L). This is all the treasure you can pick up - head further to the south and you’ll meet up with the other end of the ice bridge. Head up the stairs to the left to reachMoonview Cliff.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Using Glacis against Malamaowl

Save your game, and walk to the edge of the cliff for some cutscenes and the final boss of Ochette’s story.

The boss you face here is dictated by your choice at the beginning of the game. Apart from the weaknesses present, the fights play out similarly.

At the beginning of the battle, you’ll be prompted tosummon Acta at full boost. Thanks to the power bestowed to the creature in the cutscene, you will now have access to Cateracta instead - though only at full boost. Cateracta usesOcean’s Blessing, which is a defensive buff for the entire party. Being forced to use this ability does mean that Ochette begins the fight with zero BP.

This fight is quite easygoing to begin with. The boss will use basic attacks to hit single targets or the entire party, and acts twice per turn. It should be quite manageable. Early on, though, it will ‘prey’ on a character, reducing their HP to oneand then shuffling its own weaknesses. You can see the weakness progression in the tables above.

The boss can feast on your party members at any point in the fight, so you’ll need to be reactive with your healing. This is a good fight to use yourJamitems that restore a character’s entire HP pool, and yourHealing Grape Bunchesto get some party-wide healing going on. This is especially important later in the fight, when the boss getsthree actions per turninstead of two and usesBlacksnake, which reduces the physical and elemental defenses of your entire party for a few turns.

Havingtwo Clericsaround will be very good for your healing in this battle - there’s a ton of damage going around, and the boss has many strategies that will outright kill your party members. To that end, it’s also a good idea to bring alongDarkness-resistant accessories, as Dark damage is prevalent.

The boss gets another boost once you’ve dealt enough damage, giving it stat buffs and a raised Break Point pool. At this point, you’ll need to start being more careful with your healing, andsave up your BP for Breaking purposes. Since the weaknesses change a lot, it can be difficult to prepare for this fight, and you may have to spent Boost Points on multi-hit regular attacks. Don’t be shy about this -Breaking the boss is the best way to avoid damage, especially if you may Break it before it gets to attack on that turn.

Use skills likeAbating Orbto delete the boss’s stat buffs if you may. This will go a long way to reducing the damage it deals and its defensiveness.

When it gets low enough on HP, the boss will get taken over completely by shadows. This is the most dangerous phase of the battle, as it’s when it can use itsultimate attackand gets itsthird and final roster of weaknesses. When it starts charging this, do everything in your power to Break it. Malamaowl is probably the easier of the two to Break at this point, as Swords and Bows both have great Breaking moves (Aggressive Slash and Precise Shot).

Saving Tera (for Lajackal) or Glacis (for Malamaowl) for the final phase and unleashing them when the boss is Broken is a great way to get some easy, high damage.

Once you have a handle of the fight and can manage the flow of Breaking and then damaging in rotation, while healing when needed, it should be a hard-fought but secure victory. The big troubles occur when you’re able to’t Break the boss fast enough to give yourself some breathing room, but this should hopefully become less of a problem as the fight goes on, thanks to the increasing number of weaknesses the boss acquires.

After victory, all you have to do to end the chapter isuse Ochette’s Path Action to Befriend the fallen beast. With that, Ochette’s story is complete and she unlocks herProvoke BeastsEX Skill, which lets you use 3 of your captured beasts in succession.
