Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty - Lu Bu charges our character on his horse as the fight begins

Fighting Lu Bu at the end of this mission is particularly difficult, but you have a Battle Flag rest point directly outside the boss arena to make up for this. There are two main phases to deal with in this fight, but they repeat depending on how long the battle takes. Lu Bu will begin the fight atop his legendary horse, the Red Hare.

Phase One Battle Strategy

As soon as the fight starts, Lu Bu will eithercharge you on horseback or shoot at youwith his bow. Depending on his opening, be ready to block or deflect. Your goal for the first phase is toinflict a stance break, knocking him off his horseto make him easier to hit and deal damage to.

You have no Followers with you by default in this mission, so we suggestbringing in two alliesto help.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty - Lu Bu hits us with his critical strike while on foot, knocking our character down

In true ‘Dynasty Warriors’ fashion, Lu Bu will ride up to you and swing wildly with his halberd. The best thing you can do to reduce his Spirit Gauge is todeflect his attacks. He runs away too much for you to keep up with him and keep hitting him, so you have towatch your timingand give chase if he starts shooting arrows at you.

The best way to stance break Lu Bu is todeflect his Critical Strike. He will glow red, swing, and then leap into the air and descend on you in this attack. As ever, these attacks cannot be blocked, so if you can’t hit the deflection you will just have to try and dodge out of the way.

Don’t spam the deflectionbutton.

If it makes you feel safer, hold the block button while the attack is happening.

attempt to deflect the hit when you see himcoming down to get the timing.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty - Lu Bu pays no attention to our character, instead focusing on our followers

Lu Bu likes toride away and fire arrowsat you. If you don’t close the distance, he willcontinue to shoot arrowsat you. During this attack, you can block them to negate the damage, or, if you’re feeling fancy, you can try to deflect them anddance your way closer to Lu Bu, whacking him with afully-charged Spirit attackor Martial Arts move at the end.

Lu Bu favours his right side with attacks on horseback, so try and stay to his left.

However you choose to fight Lu Bu,your goal is to damage his Spirit. The best way to do this is to deflect and hit when you may. Eventually, you can hit him with a Fatal Strike, knocking him off Red Hare and triggering the second phase of the battle.

Phase Two Battle Strategy

Now you’ve knocked Lu Bu off his horse, he will become even more dangerous andchange up his attacks. Depending on how much damage you’ve done to him in the first phase,he might power himself upas soon as he’s on foot.

Red Hare willpatrol and dash around the edgeof the arena in this phase.

Coming into contact with the horsewill damage you.

Doing so will increase his damage and imbue his halberd and bow withfire-element attacks. Now his attacks willeffectively hit you twice, one instance will be the physical damage, and a second instance will come through as fire damage, meaning you shouldstop relying on blocking while Lu Bu is enraged.

Blocking will only hurt youdue to fire damage chipping through your guard.

Try andequip Fire-aligned armourto increase your resistance to that Virtue.

While on foot, he has an extremely powerful andwide-range Critical Strikeyou need to watch out for. It comes out fast, and it isn’t immediately obvious that it’s a Critical Strike.

Lu Bu will raise his halberd into the air for a second and it will flash with fire. He will then strike the ground once and vault himself into the air. While in the air, he will trigger his Critical Strike, which is a downward slam. The timing to deflect this attack is tricky because there is a short pause before he swings down.

Keep an eye onwhere he is in the sky.

Deflect as soon as you see himmove his halberd downto begin descending.

On foot, Lu Bu will use arotation of halberd swings and bow attacks. His halberd attacks are wide, almost always reaching behind him and to the sides to stop you from sneaking in any attacks if he’s going after your Followers.

With that said, they are heavy and well-telegraphed,making deflection easier. When using his bow, he will now shoot more arrows out in a fan, or they will come out in a cluster.

You canjump over the fan spread of arrows, but you won’t know which type he will fire until he does it.

The best time to get in some damage is when he’susing his bow attacks on your Followers. He will completely ignore you for the duration of the attack, meaning you’re free to wail on him from the side and back with impunity.

Histhird Critical Strike might catch youout since it has an awkwardly long wind-up and an even more awkward hitbox. He will twirl his halberd around, digging it into the floor behind him before charging forward towards you.

If you’re close to him when he uses it, Lu Bu willalmost always run around youin a large circle. This is a great way to reliably dodge it.

If he’s charging at you, you have towait until he swings to get the deflection.

His actual charging animationdoesn’t have attack frames on it,so it’s designed to catch you out.

When you deal enough damage, or if enough time has passed,Lu Bu will leap back onto Red Hareand the first phase will repeat. You don’t have to knock him off his horse to kill him, so don’t worry if he repeats any phases.

We wouldnot recommend using ranged bow attacksto deal damage since it takes far too long to aim and shoot. Instead, rely on melee, deflections, and magic-imbued Wizardry to whittle down his HP.

His horseback Critical Strike is by far the easiest to parry, so if you see him do it,try your luck until you learn the timing. As ever, if you struggle with him, consider using Followers to distract him.
