Whenever you set foot in a new biome inReturnal, you expect to see a whole range of new enemies that have unique attack patterns. Echoing Ruins is the fourth biome in the game, and it features Helios by your side once again, while it also works as your new spawn point until you beat the story.
RELATED:Returnal: Echoing Ruins Walkthrough
Just like every other biome, you’ll face many new enemies in this area but a lot of them will be familiar. This biome mostly has an upgraded version of older enemies, though they have a completely different set of attacks that make them far more difficult to deal with.
How To Defeat Echoing Turret
Turrets are signature enemies in Returnal sinceyou’ll find them in every single biome until Echoing Ruins. Whenever you progress to the next biome, the turrets get harder to deal with because their attacks get better. This is true for the Echoing Turrets found exclusively in the Echoing Ruins as well.
These turrets look similar to theAtropian Turrets in Overgrown Ruins, but they only have one red dot on their face instead of three. Whenever you get detected by these hostiles, they’ll shoot a red line that follows your character for a few seconds. After a while, this red line will convert into a red laser that will also follow your movement.

If you get hit by the red laser, it will deal damage to Selene. Moreover, the red line willfollow your movement accurately while the laser is much slower and easier to sidestep.
Most Echoing Turrets will be in an inactive state when you’re not nearby, which is marked by their face being close to the ground. you may’t deal damage to the turrets when they’re inactive, and you have to activate them by getting close to defeat them.Echoing Turrets also seem to have higher health than their counterparts in past biomes.

To put it in perspective, you won’t be able to deplete the turret’s entire health in one magazine of your pistolunless you have some add-ons that give you extra single-fire damage.
How To Defeat Gyropod
It seems like Echoing Ruins combine different enemies from the first three biomessince the Gyropod enemies look similar to the Drones found in Derelict Citadel. Whenever a Gyropod spawns in the room, you’ll hear a distinct audio cue that sounds like a machine. When you hear this, you can look at the mini-map and see where the hostile spawned.
Gyropods will first attempt to get a little closer to you since theycan’t attack from super long range even though their attacks aren’t melee range. Once they get close, here are the two attacks that can be performed by this enemy:

Unlike the Drones, these enemies don’t self-sacrifice when they’re in low health. They won’t throw themselves at you and explode no matter how low they are. Moreover, they’ll turn around whenever you shoot them and their stagger bar fills up.
How To Defeat Proto-Strixera
You’ve likely already seen Strixera enemies in the Overgrown Ruins, so these enemies will feel quite familiar. They can be distinguished by a jelly-like blue face and a bunch of tentacles floating below them. There’ll be a special screech whenever these enemies spawn on the battlefield.
Whenever they are about to perform an attack, their body turns completely blue and they create the shape of the sun with their tentacles surrounding their face, as shown above. Here are the two attacks you can see these enemies perform:

While the Proto-Strixera isn’t a hard enemy to deal with by itself, they usually come in swarms that make it difficult. Moreover, the rooms where these hostiles spawn usually have a bunch of turrets or some other bigger enemies that constantly attack you as well.
How To Defeat Trichozoid
Talking about bigger enemies, Trichozoids are common enemies in Echoing Ruins that can bedistinguished by their blue body and the face that looks similar to anArchonact from Crimson Wastes. These hostiles are always stationary and they’re already spawned in a room before you enter it.
Depending on its current health, a Trichozoid can perform one of these two attacks:

Apart from the Echoing Turrets, Trichozoid can also have a red shield on them, as shown in the picture. You won’t be able to deal damage to them unless you remove this shield. It can either be removed by performing a melee attack when you’re close or hitting the barrier with Shieldbreaker alt-fire.
How To Defeat Strixera Matriarch
As the name suggests, this enemy is sort of a leader of the Proto-Strixera. You can easily tell this enemy by looking at its face, which has grey colors on it, unlike the Strixera. Moreover, the tentacles below its face are larger as well. The Matriarch is a rare enemy in this biome, and you’ll hardly get one of them during your run.
This hostile has two unique attacks, and it also turns into a sun-like shape with blue color whenever it’s about to perform them:

How To Defeat Proto-Titanops
Keeping the trend of having the same enemies that you’ve seen before, the Proto-Titanops can also be found in the Echoing Ruins. This mini-boss was already one of the hardest enemies in Echoing Ruins, and its attack pattern in this biome makes it even harder:
The most lethal part of Proto-Titanops is the purple lasers since they act differently from the red ones. While you’re able to simply dash through the red lasers without taking damage, it’s not the same for the purple ones. You’ll take damage from them even after dashing past them.
Apart from all the enemies mentioned above, you can also find Malformed Archonact or Mycomorphs during your run in Echoing Ruins. Finally, you’ll have to fight Hyperion to get past this biome and enter Fractured Wastes.
