In the previous chapter of Temenos’s story inOctopath Traveler 2, the inquisitor stopped a murder and uncovered more about the devious conspiracy that kicked off the string of murders in the first place. Chapter three has Temenos investigating further, either heading to the western continent to find the Fellsun Ruins or heading to Stormhail in the north to interrogate Vados, the murderer in question.

Stormhail is the route we’re concerned with here. To get to Stormhail, you’ll need to head north from the Montwise Pass, which requires that you knock a guard unconscious. This can be tricky, as you’ll either need to fight a difficult battle, reach a high level with Throné, or source some rare sleeping herbs for Castti.

Town Phase: Stormhail

The first half of this chapter involves Temenosgoing back and forth around Stormhail as he progresses the story. First, head to the large building on the right, which is the Sacred Guard Headquarters. Before you can enter,Crickwill run into you and a few cutscenes play out in which you find that Vados is nowhere to be found, not even on the Sacred Guards' books.

After the scene, walk to the right of the Sacred GuardHeadquarters to find a graveyard. Walk to the bloodstains on the ground to witness another scene. After, walk through the gate ahead of you to find Vados.

A few scenes will pass, after which it’s time to head to the inn. Stay the night (it won’t cost anything) and watch the scenes that follow. When you wake up, make your way back to the Sacred Guard Headquarters, only to get interrupted by a cutscene on the way.

After this scene, you’ll be alone with Crick’s spirit.Use your Path Action to Guide him, though it will actually be Crick’s spirit that guides you.

Follow him into the Headquarters and then to the library on the second floor to the left. When directed toward the walkways hanging in the air, climb the ladder and reach Crick’s spirit. A scene will follow in which Temenos interacts with a mechanism - itopened a door in the huge stained glass window on the ground floor. Head there now and then, after the scene, enter the dungeon ahead.

Dungeon Phase: Forbidden Shrine

This is a short dungeon, but the enemies inside can be quite threatening if you aren’t ready for them.Make sure you have a healthy supply of Healing Grapes and Inspiriting Plumsbefore entering, and grab someOlives of Lifefor good measure, if you’re running low.

There’s a red chest to the south just after climbing down the first flight of stairs that contains aGleaming Amulet. This accessory will greatlyreduce Light damage- this will be very useful against the boss of this dungeon.

Continue along the path to reach a regular chest that contains anOlive of Life (M). Then, continue along until you reach a statue surrounded by candles. To the left is a chest that contains aHealing Grape (M), and to the right is the way forward. Enter the archway at the back of the screen once you’re down the stairs to find15,000 leaves, and then, once you’ve reached the save point further along, use the secret passageway behind the large staircase to find a red chest containing aMagic Breaker.

The Magic Breaker is a Staff geared towards physical attackers, making it useful for a more bulky character with Scholar or Cleric as a sub-job or an Armsmaster.

At the beginning of the fight, Cubaryi has ashieldup thatprotects her from all enfeebling effects, meaning you cannot use status ailments or stat debuffs on her. Instead, you’ll have to use brute force. This can be tricky, as even though she has alow number of Break Points, she only hasthree weaknesses.

Once she’s beenBroken, Cubaryiloses her protective shieldand can be enfeebled. After recovering, however, Cubaryi can set up one of a few different shields. Setting up a shield will also shuffle Cubaryi’s weaknesses. In order, the following shields will be used after each Break.

Octopath Traveler 2 - The statue in the Forbidden Shrine

If ashuffled weaknessremains the same, its icon will remain too.

Cubaryi’sultimate attack(which is signified by the purple aura that you should be used to by now) isShining Sword, a two-hit Light elemental attack. It hits very hard, so heal up if you’re able to’t Break her in time. She can also use Luminescence, which is the same as Temenos’s version. Light-resistant accessories, such as theGleaming Amuletyou picked up earlier. Put this equipment on your most fragile party members. She has other spells in her repertoire, similar to Osvald’s, but Luminescene is the one to look out for.

Later in the fight, she can use Sacred Purifying Blade, which is a souped-up version of the original. She will start using this once you reach her Nullifying Shield II phase.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Boss battle against Cubayri

Cubaryi can useSacred Slash, which will deal a hefty amount of damage and also reduce the target’s elemental defense. If you have aWarrioraround with lots of HP, try to draw attacks withIncite. You can combine this withVengeful Slashto great effect.

The battle gets much harder to deal with once Cubaryi enters her final phase -enfeebling effects are short-lived,and she will always retain her repertoire of buffs. It’s best to build a team that focuses on buffing themselves and Breaking her quickly. This is a war of attrition more than anything, but with the right setup, you’ll come out the other side successful.

Once you beat Cubaryi, the chapter ends after a few further scenes.
