Aoye is a fairly large boss, making it easy to get around the side and back of it, but the biggest problem is the wide swings that will reposition itself to stop you from exploiting any open sides. With that in mind, Aoye is slow and most of its attacks won’t cause you too much trouble.
Aoye Battle Strategy
As soon as the fight begins,Aoye could choose to leap directly at you. Be prepared to block the hit, or deflect if you’re confident with your timing. Due to Aoye’s size, you shouldalways try to avoid fighting it head-on. This means trying to let your Followers distract it while youcircle to the left or right.
When you find an opening, you shouldattack for as long as you can.Aoye will swing wide a lot of the time, while some of their other attacks will come straight from above and smash into the floor. The latter attack will create a small shockwavebut can be deflected.

Blocking is a good strategyin this fight because nothing will damage through your guard unless it is magical.
Aoye’s main attacks will use itstentacles to out-range you, and it will use a charging Critical Strike if you’re too far away from it. Your best bet is tostick as close as you canand try not to let it jump away from you. With Followers in this fight, you can get a lot ofhits in a short amount of time if you’re all surrounding it.

Don’t be afraid of the tentacle swings, and be aggressive in this fight. If you need to heal, you should block and try to back up. If you’re feeling brave, heal yourself while next to Aoye. One move to watch out for is an attack Aoye will use if you’re doing a ton ofdamage to its back or sides. It will splay out itstentacles and swing wildly, potentially hitting you several times and dealing massive damage.
Critical Strikes
As ever, during this boss fight,Aoye will use several unblockable Critical Strikesyou’ll either have to dodge out of the way or deflect with a well-timed button press. The three times we’ve fought this boss, we only saw the following two Critical Strikes to deal with:
Half Health Power-Up
When Aoye gets to half HP, it will mix in someice-element-attuned magical attacks. While powering up, Aoye will glow red and create a small AoE of red thorns, also during this animation, Aoye will spit several ice clusters out. This is how you know Aoye has changed its attacks.
These clusters will create patches of ice that will eventually debuff you with frost if you stay in them too long, and they will deal damage you. If you want, you’re able to use some Fire magic near the ice to counter them, dispelling the ice from the area. Aoye will use another ice attack where it willfire a line of frost vertically in one direction.
Now Aoye is in this phase, it will prioritise the ice attacks more, meaning you can get into close quarterswithout having to worry too much about wide swings from its tentacles.
Keep attacking and usingfire magic to deal damage.
Remember tomixMartial Arts moves into your comboswhen you have high Spirit.
Stay close and keep up the offensive. You canencourage your Followers to prompt them to use special skillsand deal more damage, so remember to use this as well. With the help of Followers and your skill, you should have done enough Spirit damage toget a few Fatal Strikes in,which will finish the fight off nicely.
