Like most RPGs,Final Fantasy 15can vary in length a good deal depending on whether one follows the main story and little else, decides to check out a decent chunk of side content, or goes through the game with the determination to complete absolutely everything.

The thing is, FF15 is one of the more extreme cases of this - you’re able to get through its plot faster than several other mainline entries, but you’d arguably be missing much of the point of the game if so. We’re taking a look at the average runtime for each approach, so you know what you’re getting yourself into with Noctis and friends.

How Long Does It Take To Beat Final Fantasy 15?

If all you have time for is the main event, you can comfortably stick to the main plot without rushing yourself from spot to spot to the tune of about28.5 hours. Now, that’s still a hefty chunk of time. But let’s compare with a few other FFs. Final Fantasy 10’s main plot averages 46 hours. Final Fantasy 12’s is 40. Even Final Fantasy 7 Remake, a truncated chunk from the original FF7’s campaign, is about 33.

This is becauseFF15 is a game with content that favors the optional side far more than the mandatory. So much of its success in a player’s eyes will depend on their enjoyment of cruising around its open world. The actual core plot takes a long time to heat up, and when it does, it’s pretty swift.

How Long Does It Take To Beat Final Fantasy 15 And Its Story DLCs?

Here’s something else about Final Fantasy 15. If you want the complete story, you need to look beyond just the game itself. Whether you love or loathe its multimedia approach, that means the feature film Kingsglaive, the anime miniseries Brotherhood, and - at minimum - the various character DLC expansions that arrived after the game’s launch.

Since Kingsglaive’s a movie, and Brotherhood’s a show, we’re not going to include those in our tally. We will, however, take a look at HowLongToBeat’s estimates for each DLC episode’s main story:

Keep in mind, we’re only looking at the amount of time it takes players to do the story content here. Adding these up with the 28.5 from earlier, we arrive at34.5 hours for FF15’s story with the DLCs added.

How Long Does It Take To 100 Percent Final Fantasy 15?

Now we’re talking. If you’re a seasoned enough role-playing game fan with enough time on your hands to have considered the above estimates oddly anemic, hopefully FF15’s plethora of side quests are to your liking.

Fully completing everything FF15 has to offer meansfishing, chocobo racing, dozens of mark hunts, several optional dungeons, increasingly wacky Regalia upgrades, andquite a bitmore. Including the procurement of some dastardly well-hidden amphibians.

There’s also the fact that we’re considering Royal Edition for this, since it is the superior version of the game, as it comes packed with nearly everything that was created post-launch.We’re also factoring in HLTB’s completionist clock times for the DLCs.

All told, that gives us133 hoursto do everything there is to do in Final Fantasy 15. Suddenly, that road trip vibe makes a whole lot more sense.

You could even make an argument for tossing in another 20 or so hours for a single-player attempt at the Comrades DLC, though it’s rather grindy. We suggest looking up its few cutscenes online instead, but the choice is yours!
