Cal Kestis' journey is about to continue. After the pleasant surprise that wasFallen Order, it’s almost time for its sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, to be released. Expectations are higher now, and we look forward to seeing the changes we were told about and the changes that we’ll only find out when we get to play the game itself.

With a new trailer dropped, we get more hints of what’s to come. Though the trailer is focused on the plot, we see enough gameplay to notice a few changes; some are already shown in earlier trailers and gameplay, and some are new, making us more anxious to play than before.
5Synopsis
Now we know there’s a five-year time skip between games. The idea here is to keep on surviving while the Empire continues to hunt Cal down, as the game’s title implies. Though Cal appears to help fight back, their goal appears to be reaching a place where they can be safe from the Empire. The place is still a mystery, but that seems to be the premise of the game, or at least part of it.
We also see that our ship crashes, something already confirmed through previous gameplay trailers of the game. Whether we’ll fix it or get a new method of transportation also remains to be seen, but it’s certain that we won’t be stranded on a single planet throughout the entire game.

4Allies
All the main group is back! Along with Cal, we’ll also have BD-1 with us in our adventure, assisting with our healthand traversing throughout the environment, similar to how it worked in Fallen Order. Merrin is also back, and the trailer does show that she tags along with us and helps in combat, showing that she’ll be a companion, something the original game didn’t have. Cere and Greez also appear in the trailer, but it doesn’t look like they’re tagging along with us or traveling with us on the ship.

We also see more of Bode Akuna, a new gunslinger character, swaggering off his blaster skills and jetpack. He also appears to walk around with us like a companion. It’s uncertain if we can choose to be with him or Merrin or if the companion is decided by the story. But the idea of not doing everything by ourselves is interesting enough. And, speaking of Merrin…
3Merrin Using The Force
That isn’t a surprise in itself, but the way she fights is curious. Merrin is a nightsister, which works similarly to a witch in the Star Wars universe. They use magick (yes, with a “k”), their own little way of using the Force. Magick tends to be closer to the dark side and has unique powers and uses, as we already saw her using during the events of Fallen Order.
Here, however, we see her using the good old Force push. Though she doesn’t appear to be a Jedi, it does seem like Cal has taught her some of his tricks. Still, she could become one, or at least some sort of gray Jedi, as the story unfolds. Let’s hope she gets a lightsaber, as it would be pretty awesome to see that.

2New Tricks Showcase
None of these are particularly new, as previous trailers and gameplay have showcased them already, but the trailer does show us some of the new abilities we’ll have at our disposal. A smoother Force pull and push at our disposal, new Force powers, dual-wielding as a default instead of only during special attacks, wall jumps, mounts and mounted combat, the power to dash through the air, and a grapple that we can use to traverse the maps.

Though not presented in this trailer, it’s worth mentioning that a stronger version of Force slow appears in the game, where it’s easy to slow down multiple enemies at once. A mix of lightsaber and blaster has also been mentioned and confirmed by the developers, butthere’s no display of how it works, sadly. But there are short videos of other lightsaber stances available online.
1Antagonists
We also get more glimpses of the enemies that we’ll be facing throughout the adventure. There is a group of either raiders or bounty hunters who consistently appear, being the default enemies, and they have reprogrammed battle droids from the Clone Wars era, meaning we’ll have some prequel droids to fight against. Among these raiders, two of them are highlighted; A masked raider who appears to be a boss fight, or at least a mini-boss, andRayvis, a big purple alienfrom a species known as Gen’Dai, who are famous for their powerful regenerative capabilities.
We also see a bit more of a mysterious antagonist that has shown up in most promotional material. Their identity is unknown, but they’re seen wielding a crossguard yellow lightsaber, and they appear to be former Jedi thanks to the dialogue. They’re found in a Bacta tank, and it appears to have been there for a long time. Regardless, we’ll have to wait a bit longer to know who they are and their intentions.
