Resident Evil 4is a scary game. It’s got tentacles and zombies and giant fish that can eat you up in a single gulp. It’s also got the Plagas–little parasitic creatures that can grow into BIG parasitic creatures, given the right hosts. And they have a vague arachnid appearance that some people might find a bit triggering.

As a horror game, Capcom isn’t going out of its way to remove Resident Evil 4’s scarier elements, but thanks to a mod creator with arachnophobia, now everyone can play the Resident Evil 4 remake, even if they’re terrified of eight-legged creepy crawlies.

We have Elvin to thank for creating the “No Spiders” mod for the RE4 remake. “This mod replaces the spider-like enemies with cubes,” writes Elvin in the mod’s description, “This is for people who are really really arachnophobic like me…”

As you can see in the image below, the cube is basically a bright hitbox that replaces the spider Plaga’s model. This replaces the Spider Plagas that control Los Illuminados cultists externally like they’re giant meat puppets and sometimes pop off and skitter around when their human vehicle gets shot in the face. Spider Plagas can also be found skittering around on their own where they’ll attempt to attack Leon with their sharp spider legs.

They really do look a lot like spiders, so I don’t blame anyone with arachnophobia for picking up this mod. Head over toNexus Modsfor the download and then drop the unpacked file into your Resident Evil 4 installation directory. Note this is a PC mod, so console players will have to suffer through RE4’s spider parasites.

Resident Evil 4 is hardly the first game to have a spider problem, but other games have started to offer specific accessibility options to make it easier for arachnophobic people to play. BothSatisfactoryandGroundedhave arachnophobia modes that replace the in-game spider models. In the case of Satisfactory, it’s a sprite of a cat, whereas Grounded has multiple levels of arachnophobia mode that progressively make the spider look less like a spider and more like a colored sphere. Grounded spiders are rounder than RE4’s cubic parasites.

And even older games are starting to getmods that add in arachnophobia mode. Skyrim, Minecraft, Spelunky, Jedi Fallen Order, and even Resident Evil HD all have mods that get rid of spiders for something a little less terrifying. If spiders are keeping you from playing the latest games, maybe check around for mods that get rid of those spiders. After all, an arachnid shouldn’t stand between you and a great game.
