The success ofGuardians of the GalaxyVol. 3 seems to have reminded everyone just how great Eidos Montreal’s Guardians of the Galaxy game was, as tributes to it have started popping up all over social media.
After a few painful misses (and, to its credit, a win with Wakanda Forever), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 release and gave everyone some hope that the MCU isn’t a lost cause. A ton of praise is rightfully being sent to the end of the MCU Guardians trilogy, but it’s also had the knock-on effect of reminding everyone else of another great Guardians adaptation - Eidos Montreal andSquare Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy game from 2021.

AlthoughGuardians of the Galaxy launched to largely positive reviews from criticsand players alike thanks to its strong cast of characters and powerful storytelling, its sales were considered an underperformance by Square Enix which, when coupled with Eidos Montreal being sold to Embracer Group last year, dashed any hopes of us seeing Eidos' universe continued and for the game to get the love it deserved.
Well, I wish I could say that situation was likely to change any time soon, but it’s sadly not. We may not ever see the continuation of this team of Guardians, but at the very least it looks like its fans are paying tribute to it alongside the launch of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Over on Twitter, several posts from fans of the game paying tribute to it have been making the rounds and reminding us all of just how great it was.
Take Twitter user popetheking for example, who shared a gif from the Guardians game and said, “Reminder if you loved Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 or just in general love The Guardians, play The Guardians of the Galaxy Video Game is JUST AS AWESOME”, which quickly got close to 6,000 likes as of the time of writing, and a ton of the game’s fans sharing how much they enjoyed it in the comments below.
Another popular post comes from Twitter user SynthPotato, who shared a similar sentiment and urged anyone who enjoyed Vol. 3 to go back and give the game a chance, noting that it’s “one of the best superhero games of the last 5 years”. This post was liked nearly 5,000 times as of the time of writing and the comments are once again flooded with love for Eidos' game.
Those are just two examples of some of the love that’s being shared around, but there’s a lot of it going on, which is a nice way of capping off the game’s legacy alongside the movie trilogy ending. It likely won’t change anything about the game’s future, but at least it’s finally getting the respect that it deserves.
