If you’ve playedGarry’s Mod, you’ll know that it can be an incredibly deep and complex tool used to create all types of weird and wonderful gamemodes for other users to play. Trouble in Terrorist Town is probably the title’s most popular and recognisable gamemode, but there are also lots of other gamemodes that encourage different forms of serious roleplay. Players can take on the roles of prison wardens, police officers, Star Wars characters, and all sorts of other kinds of people, but there’s also a nasty side to the game’s roleplay community.Alongside some of the more innocent gamemodes are much more questionable roleplay communities, some of which let people take on the roles of school shooters or Nazis. For example, there’s a popular gamemode called 1942RP which takes place in Nazi Germany during World War 2. Players can either take on the role of a resistance fighter, citizen, or a Nazi, and play out daily life in Germany during the time period. That’s one of the more tame communities involving Nazis, but if you’re sat there thinking it’s a problem, Garry’s Mod creator Garry Newman seems to agree with you.Related:Tears Of The Kingdom Is Just Garry’s Mod Meets BOTW And I Can’t WaitIn a tweet of Newman’s personal Twitter account, a poll has been set up asking fans whether “Nazi gamemodes” should be banned on Garry’s Mod from here on out, claiming that “there’s no legit reason for them to exist.” The vast majority of the Garry’s Mod seem to agree, with the poll currently sat at 72.4 percent in favor of a ban at the time of writing. There are a couple of vocal defenders that probably need to be put on some kind of government watchlist, but the general consensus appears to be that these gamemodes serve no real purpose.

With such a large agreement amongst the fanbase, it’s likely that we’ll see these gamemodes banned at some point in the near future. Whether or not this means the end of the relatively popular 1942RP community or some of the other questionable roleplay communities out there remains to be seen, but the more problematic gamemodes out there don’t look like they’ll be around for much longer.

In other Steam-related news, the platform recently got into some hot water foraccidentally restricting over 2,400 accounts that marked a negative review of a game as helpful. This review explained how to remove some anti-cheat software that was behaving strangely, something which Steam viewed as a breach of its terms of service. These accounts were restricted from using Steam social features for a full 30 days, so maybe be careful about how you interact with user reviews in the future.
