Fortnite’s Chapter 4, Season 2 theme is proving to be quite popular with fans. There’s a new cyberpunk aesthetic, new neon-lit locations, andeven a sexy new lizard guy to simp for. But the most recent update has added one of the most requested quality-of-life improvements that fans have been asking for years.
Along with theMEGA: Spring Breakout event, Fortnite nowautomatically places markers on the map for tracked quests. Previously, players could place their own personal markers, but that required prior knowledge of where you needed to go in order to accomplish a particular quest’s objectives. Now, the game throws a bone to newbies and just outright tells them where they need to go in order to complete tracked quests.

“For all the dumb UI choices they’ve made over the years,“wrote one Reddit user, “it’s nice when we get an actually good quality of life update like this every now and then.”
However, the feature might not be working as intended. Multiple users have noted that the markersonly seem to be active while you’re dropping from the busand theydisappear after you actually hit the ground. Others say that the markers remain after landfall, but “randomly untracks” during the match. It’s possible this new feature still has a few kinks to work out–we’re not sure whether the markers should remain on your UI after landfall or not.
Still, this is definitely progress. It’s more convenient for veterans who no longer have to manually place quest markers, and it’s better for new or casual players who just want the game to tell them where to go and who to shoot.
Fortnite might even get even easier for newbies if a recent leak is to be believed. HypeX has once again previewed a coming weapon called the “Lock-On Pistol,” a “specialized pistol that locks onto and tracks a target.” Footage of the Lock-On Pistol has already leaked too, showing how the pistol’s bullets will home-in on a locked target, making it impossible to miss. It’s very much on-brand with the current cyberpunk theme as Smart Guns with homing projectiles have long been a standard of near-future combat.
The Lock-On Pistol has been in Fortnite’s files for a while, but only recently have those files been given a name and a release date: April 18. It’s anyone’s guess how potent the Lock-On Pistol will be, but it certainly seems like a potent weapon from the leaked footage. Be sure to keep an eye out for this pristine piece when it arrives next week.
