Five Nights at Freddy’s fans are still arguing about the movie’s use of red eyes for the animatronics, with one side pointing out that they’re actually used in the games, and the other making edits of the trailer and posters without them to show how much better it looks.
Earlier this week,Blumhouse released the finished version of the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie trailerafter an early version of it was leaked out “for the people”. The general response to the trailer was pretty positive overall, but there was one big thing that has completely split the community in half. Well, technicallytwobig things -the glowing red eyes.

Despite years of waiting to see the movie in action, it seems that as soon as the trailer dropped, most of the discussion has centred on the glowing red eyes and whether or not they’re a good thing. Last week we reported that most fans didn’t seem to be fond of the eyes, but in the days since there’s been a much bigger split between liking the red eyes and not, with many pointing out that they’re in line with the games.
Let’s start off with the red eyes defenders, since we previously focused on those who don’t like the glow. Although there are some that simply seem to think that the red eyes aren’t that big of a deal, the arguement for them is that they’re actually in-line with the games. For example,as pointed out by Twitter user OPootis, the glowing red sockets aren’t new to the series, as the eyes of the animatronics have been shown to glow red ever since the first Five Nights at Freddy’s game.
On the over side of things, those who don’t like the glowing red eyes argue that just saying that the animatronics in the games sometimes have glowing red eyes is missing the point, as the main complaint from this side is that the eyes simply don’t look good.As you’re able to see from this detailed post from Redditor EmrysTheBlue, fans who don’t like the red eyes have a lot of reasons why that have nothing to do with how the animatronics look in the game.
It might seem like a small detail to cause such a big divide, but as of the time of writing it’s pretty much the only thing that the community can talk about. Some are creatingtrailer edits that replace the eyes with the small glowing white ones from the games, while others are calling for Blumhouse to edit the film and change the eyes, a la Paramount changing the design of Sonic the Hedgehog. Yes, it’s really going that far.
My advice is to join the secret third option - staying as far away from the red eyes debate as possible.Or go with the ones having a laugh about the animatronics being high, they seems like a good group.
