The Witcher’s third season hitsNetflixlater this year and while it won’t be the last we see of the show, it will signify the end of an era.Henry Cavill will be stepping down as Geraltafter three seasons as the lead character, withLiam Hemsworth taking his place from season four. We’ve still got one more season of Cavill’s Geralt though, and the first official look at him, along with Ciri and Yennefer, has been shown off via a poster for season three.
The poster shows Geralt holding Ciri with Yennefer standing behind them, her hand placed on Geralt’s arm. Naturally, there are some pretty heavy spoilers for season two ahead so if you’re not all caught up on how it ends, you might want to stop reading now. Ciri is possessed by a demon that uses her to kill Witchers, something that understandably upsets some of the survivors. Not Geralt, of course, who continues to try and protect Ciri, as does Yennefer who attempts to offer herself up as a host for the aforementioned demon.

Ciri instead transports all three of them to an unknown dimension, the demon escapes, and The Wild Hunt is shown, something those of you who have playedThe Witcher 3will be very familiar with. Despite seemingly ridding themselves of the demon, Geralt and Co’s problems still make for a pretty long list. Most notably the various factions intent on capturing Ciri for themselves for a number of reasons.
On that list are the elves who believe Ciri’s blood is the key to their survival, and also Ciri’s dad, a character presumed dead but is revealed to be alive and looking for his daughter at the very end of season two. So yes, an awful lot of loose ends to presumably tie up before Cavill departs and is replaced by Hemsworth for season four. The poster naturally doesn’t give a lot away when it comes to how those loose ends will be tied, but it has already been revealedthe next series will greatly deviate from both the books and the gameson which the show is based.
Confirmation of that unsurprisingly went down like a lead balloon, especially when the appearance of The Wild Hunt during the tail end of season two made it seem like the games would be leaned on heavily in season three. The jury is still out on the recasting of Geralt too, althoughsomeone has already deepfaked Hemsworth into the roleto give everyone a taste of how it’ll look once The Witcher has been replaced.
