With a game likeFinal Fantasy, which has been going strong since 1987, you know that the lore behind it is as intricate as it gets. The series is set in a fantasy-meets-technology universe that gives leeway to various diverse creatures and monsters that populate each chapter.

The monsters in the game are a pain at times, and because of this, we wanted to make sure we would find the most annoying ones in the whole series for you to go over. So, with superfast cacti, literal bombs, and the classic fantasy goblin, the game has a wide array of creatures that put everyone’s patience to the test.
10Goblin
One of the most common enemies in the whole series, the Goblin can be a friend or foe, depending on the chapter, and the Goblin. The most annoying aspect of these monsters is their ability to take items from your party.
But theft isn’t the only annoying aspect of Goblins in Final Fantasy; count in their ability to evade a fair amount of attacks and their ability to escape from battles, and you have a pain of a monster right there — a fun pain, but one nonetheless.

9Flan
Another common creature you will encounter early on in the games is the Flan. This blob-like monster is one of the monsters you’ll fight the most, and that alone is a reason for you to start getting bored of it.
If you factor in their ability to regenerate health and absorb specific magic attacks, you’ll have a headache early on in the game. Just don’t go and try to eat one because, as the Bestiary reminds us, “the flesh of this monster is downright nasty.”

8Imp
The Imp is yet another common enemy that you’ll encounter a variety of times in the early stages of your Final Fantasy adventures. These annoying little creatures aren’t just fast, thus making them hard to strike down.

They also have a widevariety of debuffing spellsto make your adventures that much more difficult for you and your party members. Sure, their HP is high, but they can be a nuisance when you fight them.
7Bomb
Well, the name says it all. These enemies are literal bombs. They tend to appear in groups, which makes seeing them so much more annoying to you.
First, Bombs do what bombs do out of gaming as well. They blow up. And the bombs in Final Fantasy have a self-destruct attack that inflicts much damage to the whole party. This makes them such a hassle, especially when they show up all together.

6Mandragora
We’ve seen some enemies specializing in debuffs up to this point, but the Mandragora also deals with sleep and confusion at your party. In any turn-based RPG, those two status ailments are annoying.

If you start to think about how many times Mandragoras appear in groups, you’ll understand why these creatures have a place on this list. Multiple creatures inflicting both sleep and confusion is a whole new level of annoying creature. Just don’t get fooled by their cute appearance inFinal Fantasy 12. They’ll still be a bother to you and your party members.
5Malboro
How could we leave the wielder of Bad Breath out of our list?Malboro’s, and its stronger cousin Great Malboro’s, signature attack is one of the most deadly when you show up to the battle unprepared. It’s worth a rage-quit or two, especially when you realize this creature isn’t a mini boss.
Depending on the chapter you’re playing, Bad Breath can inflict many ailments, such as Poison, Confusion, Sleep, Silence, Frog, and Small. Worst of all, this can affect every party member, so be ready always. The Malboro could be around the corner.

4Tonberry
We couldn’t leave out the Tonberrynow that we’re talking about iconic monsters. They sure can look cute when you haven’t encountered one all your life. But, if you’ve played any of the games after Final Fantasy 5, you know too well that the Tonberry isn’t a friendly creature.
Once a Tonberry closes in on you, there’s little that can help you escape the creature’s signature Chef’s Knife attack. At that point, you have to hope in your lucky stars and wish it doesn’t instakill you there and then.

3Iron Giant
Most of the creatures we’ve looked at up until now tend to be smaller than the Iron Giant, which isn’t just impressive because of its size and scary demeanor, but rather the ability to hit a wide area and affect all of your party.
To make things more bothersome, the Iron Giant has the habit of showing up in groups, making the attacks much more frustrating for you. Oh, before we forget, they also have some of the highest defense stats in the game.

2Yiazmat
Now, out of every monster we’ve looked at, none of them is a boss. However, we needed to make an exception for this optional boss from Final Fantasy 12 because few things are as annoying asthe Yiazmat battle.
Yiazmat is one of the monsters with the highest HP in the series, and for some, it takes hours to defeat. Don’t expect to go in there and take him down on your first try — arm yourself with patience because it is a battle of attrition against this boss. If you feel like taking down this 50 million HP boss, you must take down Hell Wyrm and complete all Rank VII Marks.

1Cactuar
Ah, the Cactuar, the funniest looking monster in all the Final Fantasy series, but the most annoying when pitted against you in the wild. One of the fastest creatures in all the series, the Cactuar is tough to hit, and that’s a shame because of how low their HP is.
Worst yet is how the Cactuar almost always responds with their signature 1000 needles attack, which always inflicts 1000 HP damage, regardless of defense. Also, to make matters worse, when you summon Cactuarusing 1000 needles, it doesn’t always inflict the severe damage it would against you and your party.
