Square Enixcontinues to claimthe PS5 is the only system that can handle Final Fantasy 16, hence the game launching exclusively on the platform for an unspecified limited time. What exactly its creators mean by that has just become a little clearer. Now, its director has revealed just how integral the use ofthe PS5’s DualSensewill be when you’re playing the next installment in theFinal Fantasyseries a few months from now.
PlayStation’s DualSense boasts adaptive triggers and haptic feedback unlike anything else on the market, arguably features most studios haven’t made the most of yet. It sounds a lot like that will not be the case forFinal Fantasy 16as Hiroshi Takai explained toPlayStation Blogthat Square’s highly-anticipated next game will be using those features to such an extent that players will be able to feel the air flowing through the game’s cutscenes.

“We converted the sound effects used in each scene into haptic data, which let us portray details that we’ve never been able to before, like the movements of the air,” Takai revealed. Yes, if that’s accurate, you will quite literally be able to feel the wind flowing through Clive’s hair. If that doesn’t make you feel alive then video games might not be for you.
Takai also brought up specific moments throughout the game, during which Clive will need to push open heavy doors and lift portcullises. These will be reflected with the adaptive triggers, pulling players in to help them feel and understand how much effort needs to be exerted to progress. Probably the best explanation as to why Final Fantasy 16 will bePS5-only at launch as no other platforms have controllers with the same features as the DualSense.
That said, the DualSense is compatible withPC, but when exactly Final Fantasy 16 will launch on the platform, if ever, remains unclear. It was believedthe PC version would launch six months after it arrived on PS5, but comments made by the game’s producer have muddied the waters.Naoki Yoshida appeared to reveal it will launch on PC eventuallyduring a live stream before walking the comment back and telling people to buy a PS5 if they want to play Final Fantasy 16.
