Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipsehas been released worldwide in the form of a remaster. The fourth entry in the series and one of its more interesting titles; it’s a spooky good time. In terms of achievement/trophy completion, Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is easier than Maiden of Black Water.

That game has to be one ofthe hardest horror completions out there, with you required to get an S+ rank on all levels on both Normal and Nightmare difficulties. That said, Fatal Frame 4 is not easy, with some achievements being quite frustrating.

8Hozuki Dolls In Memoriam

Fatal Frame 4 has quite a lot of collectibles, but the most memorable has to be the Hozuki dolls. One can be spotted in most rooms in the game, and some are very well hidden. Sometimes you’ll notice your camera ring turning blue, and you didn’t even see the doll. However, quite a few are out in the open and easy to spot.

It’s the most fun collectible to get by far, and you can get an item to detail all their room locations for a hefty price. You still have to find them on your own, though. Finding all the dolls is very tricky, as some are so well hidden you’ll likely need some sort of guide.

7Infinity

Some of the Fatal Frame games, including the fourth one, offer Mission Mode. These are a series of singular missions with different tasks, and they’re a nice distraction from the core campaign. To get the Infinity achievement, you must get an S rank on all 20 of them. Having maxed-out gear makes this much easier, although a few will still give you trouble.

The first two missions are actually some of the hardest because maxed-out gear kills the ghosts really fast, and that won’t give you the score you need. You must do a specific strategy involving chain combos and certain lenses to get that S rank.

Missions like Lady in Black (1) are extremely hard without the unlockable lenses. You must fightone of the scariest ghosts in the series, Kageri Sendo, and her invincible doll.

6Moonlight Glass

The Moonlight Glass achievement requires you to fully upgrade all the lenses in the game. These include the unlockable lenses you get much later. The frustrating aspect of this achievement is that the final lens is obtained by beating Nightmare mode, which is, at minimum, the end of your third playthrough.

By that point, you’ll have so many unused Spirit Stones that it’s sort of overkill. That final lens definitely could have been more useful earlier on when you had just the right amount of Stones in your second playthrough.

5Fatal Frame

Nightmare is the highest difficulty in Fatal Frame 4, and while the mode isn’t as bad as it may seem, it still requires some prep work. Some notable features in the mode are the high damage the ghosts deal out, but most importantly, you can’t buy items at the save point anymore. However, there is a catch to this.

Since you’ll likely be playing via New Game Plus, and all your items carry over, you’re able to simply boot up the first three chapters of the game, max out all your items, then start Nightmare.

You’ll need a lot of money to do this, but it’s worth it. The piano sections must also be done via memorization, as the controls won’t appear anymore.

4Voice Of The Voiceless

Outside of the huge amount of ghosts, there is one other collectible. That being the files. This encompasses notes, diaries, Spirit Radio recordings, and cassette tapes. Most of these will be collected during natural progression, but there are several nasty ones that you must backtrack to get.

You’ll never know their location; you just have to make a wicked guess and assume that backtracking to this important area will yield something new. As such, a guide is essentially required here. At least you’ll receive a lot of important lore that’s necessary to fully understand the story here.

3Full Eclipse

Full Eclipse is the platinum trophy or final achievement in the Xbox version. For PlayStation users, this platinum is simply unlocked after getting all the trophies. However, getting the achievement to pop can be a much more terrifying process for Xbox users. Once you get every other achievement, Full Eclipse will not unlock for some people.

This could make you panic and try everything to get this achievement to pop. You might think this achievement is glitched, but fret not, as there’s a way to solve this.

If Full Eclipse doesn’t pop, you must boot up and complete a mission from Mission Mode, and that should do the trick. It can definitely be nerve-wracking but thankfully isn’t glitched.

2Search For The Faint And Hidden

Besides the unlockable camera lenses, the revenants are the only collectibles that you must put in a second playthrough to get them all. These offercreepy hidden scenesnot found anywhere else.

Around half of them must be obtained by using the Sense upgrade, which is only available in New Game Plus. Surprisingly, most of the revenants found this way aren’t that hard to spot.

It’s the normal revenants that can cause some issues. Like certain files, they can require backtracking to specific areas that you would never even think to go back to. You’ll need a guide for this, but at least the revenants offer some really cool and creepy visuals.

1Taming The Spirits

The hardest achievement in Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse has to be Taming the Spirits, which involves taking a photo of all wraiths. Unlike Maiden of Black Water, none of the ghosts are really hidden.

Instead, the issue is the blossoming mechanic. Many ghosts in the title can blossom, and these are counted separately in the wraith list. Getting these ghosts to blossom is a total pain.

Using Type-07 film and Kirishima’s Explosion lens helps here, but a blossom is still not guaranteed. To make matters worse, the ghosts can only blossom in specific areas of the game.

You’ll try to make a ghost blossom for so long until you realize you simply can’t in this area. This is the achievement you’ll struggle with the most.
