That didn’t quite happen, though. In fact, he didn’t even make it to the third movie, as he perished before fans really had a chance to get to know him. As such, this enigmatic creature remains a mystery to most viewers. Yet, if you pay close attention to the movies and read some of the Star Wars books, you get a clearer idea of who Snoke was and his purpose in the Star Wars universe.
Origins
One of thebiggest questions surrounding Snoke has always been about his origins. After all, the creature just appeared in The Force Awakens with little explanation about where he came from, as that wouldn’t be revealed until later.
It turns out he was theproduct of the Sith loyalists' cloning experimentson Exegol. They were attempting to create a new vessel for Darth Sidious at the time.

The being that would come to be known as Snoke wasn’t consideredcapable of containing the Emperor’s ‘dark essence.‘Yet, Snoke’s sensitivity to the force meantSidious still saw value in the creature.
His Role In The First Order And The Sith
Snoke force powers eventually grew incredibly strong, andhe became the Supreme Leader of the neo-imperialist group known as The First Order.
Yet, it wasn’t just down to him, asSidious was manipulating him from afar. The Emperor needed an army and resources to be able to contend with the New Republic; the First Order gave him those things.

Not all of Snoke’s attention was on The First Order, though. In fact, General Hux was the one really leading the army. The Supreme Leader put much of his focus ontraining and guiding Ben Solo (aka Kylo Ren).
His influence helped guide the young man to the dark side. However, once again, he was serving as the Emperor’s puppet. It was actuallySidious who got in the mind of Benand helped transform him into Kylo Ren. Snoke was effectively a middleman in this whole situation.

‘Middleman’ is the perfect overall description of Snoke, aspretty much everything he did was influenced by Sidious.
Death And Aftermath
In the end, the training of Kylo Ren would pretty much lead to the creature’s downfall. He used Ren to get his hands on Rey- he even established a Force connection between the two.
His goal was to use her to discover Luke Skywalker’s location so he could finally wipe out the Jedi.

Yet, heoverestimated the control he had over Ren’s mind.He thought he could get his apprentice to strike her down. In fact, in his final moment, he still thought Ren was about to kill the Jedi.

However, what Ren actually did was turn onthe lightsaber sitting next to Snokeso that it would slice through the Supreme Leader and kill him instantly.
Overall, it wasa very significant blunder on Snoke’s part. Not only did he create the bond between Ren and Rey, but he also placed the lightsaber in a position where it could be quickly used against him.

In the immediate aftermath of Snoke’s death, Ren attempted to become the new Supreme Leader of The First Order. But after a while, he discovered the existence of Sidious, who naturally took control.
By this point,Snoke’s influence in the series was pretty much over. However, as he did train Kylo Ren, hetechnically contributed to the downfall of Sidious. After all, Ren did help Rey take the Emperor down.
