TheCore Crystalsare among the returning aspects of the game, but it is handled slightly differently than before and has tons of potential for use in and outside combat. Despite being a crucial part of the gameplay, Core Crystals can be easy to overlook, which is unfortunate as they give you a significant advantage in battle.
Core Crystal Overview
ACore Crystalacts as asubset of actionsfor every character in Ryza 3, enabling them to useConsumablesin and outside combat. These are crucial as they cancure Status Effects, apply Buffs, deal mass damage to enemies, and restore HP.However, before you canflesh these systems out,you must first acquire aSkillfrom the extensiveSkill Tree. The Skill you are looking for isModify Crystal, and it requires1,200 SP,becoming available after you unlock the Trio Craft Skill.
Core Crystals have tremendous potential, so it’s best not to ignore this mechanic, as it can make encounters much more manageable for you.Every character has a Core Crystal, enabling you to equip them with different Core Items and further upgrade its traits with the aforementioned Modify Crystal Skill. The sections below will extensively coverCore Items(Consumables) andCore Shards, the material needed to enhance Core Crystals.

Core Items
Core Items(Consumables) areItemsyou canSynthesizewith Ryza’s Alchemy prowess, allowing you touse them in combatafter you accumulate enoughCore Charge(CC) in battle. Core Items will also be yourprimary way of healing.you’re able to do this in and outside an encounter; theCC pool differs for both.Any CC left over from your battle will apply to the CC pool used during exploration, which is capped at 10/10.
This means youcan only use ten healing Core Items in one goand will have torefill that poolif you want to heal in-between combat again. You canreplenish this CC poolby fighting more enemies, resting at a Bonfire, or returning to Ryza’s Atelier. Toaccess healing Core Items when exploring, open theMenu, navigate to yourBasket, then tab over to theConsumablespage. Here, you will find all yourequipped Core Itemsand can select your Grass Beans or other healing Items, followed by a character, to replenish their HP.

One last thing of note withCore Itemsis that theynever expire. While they dohave a limited number of uses during encounters andrequire a specific amount of CCto use, theywill never be removed from your inventoryunless you manually do it yourself. However, this also means thatthe onus is on you to Synthesize newer and better Consumableswhen you upgrade your Alchemy capabilities and come across better materials. The further you get in the game, you shouldoccasionally recreate your Consumables,as they will be much more potent.
Core Items are extremely valuable tools as they can disrupt an enemy’s charged attack and even break their guard, temporarily leaving them stunned. you may also make Consumables that monsters are weak to, making them an excellent source of damage and pressure.
Core Shards
After obtaining theModify Crystal Skill, you willearnCore Shardsafter finishing combat encounters, butonly if you use Core Itemsduring them. This encourages you to use Core Items during a battle and rewards you withexcellent upgradesfor your Core Crystal, allowing you to make yourCore Items more potentandstart every encounter with more Core Charge(CC).
Additionally, every character in your party has their own Core Crystalthat can be upgraded via Core Shards. Some characters will have the same upgrades, while others will have completely different ones. However, the unfortunate news is that while they all have separate Core Crystals, theCore Shards are shared, meaning if you spend them on upgrading one character’s Core Crystal, the boost will not be applied to everyone else. This makes it so you must earn many Core Shards to complete everyone’s Core Crystal.
Fortunately, you canrack up a significant amount of Core Shardsby simplyusing Core Items in battle.Any Core Item will work, as you can apply buffs to yourself or a party member, restore your HP, or chuck Bombs or other harmful Items at your enemy. There are many Core Items you can make in Atelier Ryza 3, and all are worth making at least once to see what they’re capable of.
