There are many Compound Special Attacks present in Tales of Symphonia, allowing you to unleash tremendously potent attacks on your enemy with just about any pairing of characters. Furthermore, this mechanic takes full advantage of the game’s Unison Attacks system, making it relatively easy to perform during every encounter.

Compound Special Artes Overview

As mentioned above,Compound Special Attacksare powerful actions you may carry out during combat encounters bycombining Tech from two charactersvia theUnison Attacksystem. First, if you do not yet haveaccess to Unison Attacks,you must proceed to the point in the story where youexit Ossa’s Trailroughly ten hours into your journey.

Once you have access toUnison Attacks,you’re able to finally beginpairing together Techto formCompound Special Attacks.To do this, open theMenuand navigate to theU. Attacksection. When there, you will seeevery available characterin your party, along with a list ofD-Pad inputsto assign Tech to. This is where your Compound Special Attacks come into play.

How To Perform Compound Special Attacks

To carry out Compound Special Attacks, you mustassign specific Tech to your party membersthat willsynergize with one anotherto create these actions. For example,Lloyd’s"Sword Rain: Alpha" andColette’s"Hammer Rain" combine to createStardust Rain,so you willassign Sword Rain: AlphatoLloyd’s Right D-PadandHammer RaintoColette’s Right D-Padto make things easy to remember and execute during combat.

You will also see a newUnison Gaugeabove your party members' portraits during encounters.You cannot perform Unison Attacks or Compound Special Attacks until this meter is filled. When active,click in the Right Analog Stick,thenpress whichever D-Pad direction you assigned to the Tech neededfor your new Compound Special Attack.
