As you might expect, Curved Greatswords are likeCurved Swords, but bigger. In an ideal world, they maintain the speed and elegance of their shorter counterparts, but with the power of a much larger weapon.

That hasn’t always worked out inElden Ring, but a patch gave the weapon class massive buffs, giving some of the weaker options a chance to be viable, and making the ones that were powerful already even stronger. This list will help you decide which of these weapons are actually worth your time.

9Monk’s Flameblade

There’s really no other way to say it: theMonk’s Flamebladeis a bad weapon. Sure, it looks cool, but that’s pretty much all it has going for it. Compared to the other Curved Greatswords, it’s short, has low damage, and lacks any special abilities to make up for those deficiencies.

And it doesn’t even have the grace to be easy to find; it only drops from a single Fire Monk in the Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave. It’s not a guaranteed drop, either, so you’ll have to run through the Grave over and over again until you get it. Unless you’re a completionist (or are writing a list about Curved Greatswords), the Monk’s Flamblade just isn’t worth the effort.

8Onyx Lord’s Greatsword

TheOnyx Lord’s Greatswordis the only Curved Greatsword with innate Intelligence scaling. Unfortunately, that doesn’t automatically make it a great option for mage builds. Its on-hit damage scales better with Strength, but the Weapon Skill, Onyx Lord’s Repulsion, only scales with Intelligence, so you’ll have to split your levels wisely. Speaking of the Weapon Skill, it’s something of a mixed bag.

When used, it will push enemies away from you, which often isn’t what you want when engaging in melee combat. That said, it will fully knock down many smaller enemies, which can effectively stunlock them. If that sounds interesting to you, the weapon is a reward for killing one of the Onyx Lord’s in the Land’s Between. Specifically, it’s the one you fight at the end of the Sealed Tunnel, in the Altus Plateau.

7Dismounter

TheDismountercan’t compete with some of the other Curved Greatswords in terms of damage, but it is the second-longest weapon of the bunch. More importantly, it’s easily the longest that can be given a unique Ashe of War.

Most players will opt for a higher-damage option, but if length is what you’re after, the Dismounter has it in spades. Getting the weapon is relatively simple as well; it’s dropped by Kaiden Sellswords. you’re able to find them all across the Land’s Between, but they are especially common in Elden Ring’s opening area, Limgrave.

6Zamor Curved Sword

If you want a Curved Greatsword to use in regular combat, theZamor Curved Swordisn’t what you’re looking for. It’s the shortest Curved Greatsword by a significant margin, and its damage won’t compete with other weapons in its class.

However, its weapon skill, Zamor Ice Storm, is quite powerful. It creates a whirlwind of ice around you, dealing significant damage and triggering Frostbite extremely quickly. The weapon is basically a one-trick pony, but it’s definitely a nice trick. Unsurprisingly, this weapon is dropped by the Ancient Hero of Zamor at the end of the Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave, in the Mountaintops of the Giants.

5Beastman’s Cleaver

TheBeastman’s Cleaveris, if you’ll pardon the pun, an absolute beast of a weapon. Of the Curved Greatswords that can be given Ashes of War, it is the damage king, being especially suited to Strength-focused builds. It is also the shortest and heaviest in the weapon class, but many players will find that a small price to pay for the raw damage it provides.

A potentially larger barrier is that the weapon drops from the Azula Beastmen who wield it. Normally, you can only find them in Crumbling Farum Azula, one of the last areas of the game. However, the Beastman’s Cleaver can be acquired far earlier than that if you use the Crumbling Lands Waygate at the Four Belfries, in Liurnia of the Lakes. This will take you to a separate section of Crumbling Farum Azula where you’ll find two Beastmen, one of which you can farm for this weapon.

4Omen Cleaver

If there was one weapon on this list that really exemplified Curved Greatswords as a concept, it would be the Omen Cleaver. It has the unique combination of reach, speed, and damage you want from the weapon type. It’s shorter than the Dismounter, and doesn’t quite match the Beastman’s Cleaver in terms of damage, but it’s close enough in both areas that it will often be a better choice than either of them.

To get theOmen Cleaver, you’ll have to kill the tough, ogre-like Omen enemies. They become relatively common in the Altus Plateau, but there’s one outside the Liftside Chamber Site of Grace in Stormveil Castle you can farm, should you wish to acquire the weapon early.

3Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword

TheMagma Wyrm’s Scaleswordis the Faith-scaling member of the Curved Greatsword class, gaining damage from both Strength and Faith, becoming quite powerful if you invest in both stats. Its best feature, though, is the Weapon Skill, the dramatically named Magma Guillotine. You leap into the air, then slam down the weapon in an explosion of magma. you may then follow up with a second chop.

The leap attack is extremely difficult to be knocked out of, and between the two attacks, you will deal massive damage to most bosses, making this one of the better unique Weapon Skills the Lands Between have to offer. Additionally, the Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword can be obtained relatively early in the game if you’re willing to rush through the starting areas to Magma Wyrm Makar, who guards the secret entrance to the Altus Plateau in the Ruin-Strewn Precipice.

2Morgott’s Cursed Sword

Unlike some of the weapons from earlier on this list,Morgott’s Cursed Swordisn’t just a Weapon Skill on a stick. It’s both the longest and lightest of the Curved Greatswords, and it causes Bleed buildup on hit. On their own, those qualities would make the weapon worth using, even with its somewhat underwhelming base damage.

However, Morgott’s Cursed Sword also has a spectacular Weapon Skill in Cursed-Blood Slice, which causes you to rush forward and slash through the air, leaving explosive trails of fire and blood. It’s one of the most visually spectacular Weapon Skills in the game, and it’s quite powerful as well. If you want to crush your enemies and feel like an anime protagonist while doing it, you can acquire Morgott’s Cursed Sword by defeatingMorgott, the Omen Kingand trading his Remembrance with Enia at the Roundtable Hold.

1Bloodhound’s Fang

TheBloodhound’s Fanghas a reputation as one of Elden Ring’s best early-game weapons, and with good reason. It can be acquired in the game’s starting area by killing Bloodhound Knight Darriwill in the Forlorn Hound’s Evergaol. He’s not too difficult, even for a low-level Tarnished, and as a reward, you get a Curved Greatsword you’re able to use throughout your entire playthrough. It has high damage, long reach, innate Bleed damage, and, unlike most Somber Stone weapons,it can be buffed.

And on top of everything else, the Bloodhound’s Fang has a great Weapon Skill, Bloodhound’s Finesse, which causes you to lunge forward then slash upwards in a summersault, and can then be followed up with a Heavy Attack that causes you to lunge forward again. Both movements grant you temporary invincibility, have great range, and deal massive damage. This is basically the perfect weapon, and easily the best Curved Greatsword.
