Every video game is getting a movie or TV show these days, so it’s no surprise thatFortnitehas its own ideas for an adaptation. Whether this would mean a story based on the comics or something loosely centred around the battle royale mode isn’t clear, but Epic Games CCO Donald Mustard knows exactly what it would look like.

“To me, I wanna do stuff that always just feels authentic and is a great story,” Mustard toldColliderwhen asked if Fortnite will follow in the footsteps of theSuper Mario Bros. movie andThe Last of Us’HBO show. “It’s not something we’re actively working on right now. I’m not gonna say it would never happen.

“In fact, I know exactly how I would do the Fortnite whatever. Exactly. I know exactly the story I’d want to, but it’s not the focus right now. I don’t have time.”

Epic Games has held a good relationship with the Russo Brothers over the years, the directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers Infinity War, and Avengers Endgame. We saw this blossom into a two-way crossover, with Fortnite appearing in Endgame andThanos appearingas one of the battle royale’s earliest crossovers before it made a name for itself as an IP sandbox.

Mustard says that this relationship would make it easier to get a Fortnite movie off the ground. The problem is that he doesn’t have time and it’s not currently in the plans, so we won’t see any big-name actors dropping the griddy when they jump out of the battle bus (sorry). “Oh yeah, a Fortnite movie gets greenlit by any studio in a second,” Mustard said. “It’s just there’s other stuff we’re working on right now.”

In the meantime, we have the upcoming live-actionMinecraft(you know, the game known for its retro block-based graphics),Call of Duty,Five Nights at Freddy’s,The Last of Us season two,Sonic 3,God of War,Horizon, Gran Turismo, and so many more. Games are chugging along with adaptations, but for the time being, Fortnite isn’t following suit.

Instead, Fortnite is busy preparing for its nextbig crossover with Doctor Whoin time for the November 60th Anniversary celebrations. Leaks claim it’s a “Highly ambitious and expensive production” that will feature multiple Doctors. Maybe, if a movie ever does happen, we’ll see the Time Lords team up with Master Chief to thwart Galactus, though something tells me getting all that IP together for a movie will be a lot harder than doing it for a game.
