Elden Ringis huge as is, but for modders, that’s not enough. One dedicated fan has ported the original Souls-like’s first level into the game, letting The Tarnished brave Boletaria for a change.

It’s not a 1:1 recreation, since it uses Elden Ring’s enemies, but it’s close enough. In place ofDemon’s Souls’usual footsoldiers, there are Stormveil’s red-hooded fiends who throw firebombs, which, as the video shows, makes things much harder. Instead of a group of flimsy dagger-wielding husks stabbing at you, there’s a line of explosives erupting in your face. Luckily, that’s offset by the fact thatyou can ride Torrentthrough Boleteria Palace, and you don’t need to worry about the Phalanx boss fight.

As reported byKotaku, the mod comes from YouTuber Dropoff who isn’t a stranger to toying with FromSoft games. A couple of years ago, they broughtDark Souls 3’sHigh Wall of Lothric toBloodborne, and just before that, they made the first Dark Souls' Undead Parish playable in the third game. On top of putting together several Frankenstein monsters, they’ve also uncovered prototype builds for the original Dark Souls' Firelink Shrine, the Dreg Heap from Dark Souls 3, andDemon’s Souls' Shrine of Storms.

For the most part, Boletaria Palace is visually complete. There are a few spots with missing textures, like the square patches at the start and the boulders that you’d normally unleash on a line of enemies, but everything else is intact. You can go to where we find our first red-eye knight, across the top of the walls, down where we first meet Oscar, along the cliffside, and even into the boss arena, though it’s full of Elden Ring soldiers instead.

It’s lifted from the original 2009 Demon’s Souls, rather thanthe Bluepoint remake for PS5, but the Tarnished doesn’t look too out of place, and Elden Ring’s more modern lighting gives Boletaria a new kind of facelift.

With how talented these modders are, maybe one day we’ll see other FromSoft games make their way to Elden Ring. Chuck Malenia inthe Bed of Chaos arena, or maybe stick Radahn in the Capra Demon boss room. That’d be beautifully horrific.

It’s unclear how Dropoff managed to get Boletaria in Elden Ring, and you can’t currently download it for yourself, but it’s impressive all the same. They even wander about with a suit of armour close to that of the Flute Knight for maximum nostalgia. Granted, they’re chugging Estus juice instead of eating grass, but it’s still familiar.
