Perhaps more than any other FromSoftware game, opting for a mage build inElden Ringis likely one of the most forgiving entry points when compared to other Soulslike titles. It allows you to hurl powerful spells at a distance, often making short work of your enemies before they lay a hand on you.
All that power has its downsides, as the armor often offers little to no protection while out exploring in the Lands Between. While not the strongest or most impressive-looking attire in Elden Ring, many of the game’s mage armor sets offer you a variety of powerful perks and stat boosts worth keeping an eye out for.

Spoilers follow for some of the game’s branching questlines.Updated July 30, 2025, by Andrew Scariati:The Shadow of the Erdtree introduced new options for Elden Ring’s best mage armor sets, offering great choices for cosplay and damage. While the best mage armor Elden Ring has to offer usually provides little protection and a robed look, there’s more variety now than there was when the game first released.
14Queen Of The Full Moon Set
This decently powerful light armor set can be acquired after defeating the Legend bossRennala, Queen of the Full Moonat the Raya Lucaria Academy. The set is worn by the Queen herself, and with its boost to Intelligence scaling, you can see why.
As withsome of the best bosses in Elden Ring, this fight is no cakewalk and has a particularly challenging second phase. After taking her out, you can purchase the set from Enia for a steep 31,000 runes at the Roundtable Hold.

The Queen of the Full Moon Set increases Focus and Vitality resistances.
13Alberich’s Set
Although a little build-specific,Alberich’s Setis undoubtedly the armor of choice for those opting to use Aberrant sorceries.
Aberrant spells scale with Faith rather than Intelligence, which makes it all themore appealing for use with a powerful Faith weapon.

Each armor piece gives a welcome six percent buff for all Aberrant sorceries, of which there are only two: Briars of Sin and Briars of Punishment. They look very impressive, though are unfortunately quite hard to pull off mid-fight. But hey, the hat is appropriately pointy — look at that!
12Lazuli Sorcerer Set
TheLazuli Sorcerer Setcan be found at Raya Lucaria Academy and can be acquired by killing a variety of enemies roaming around the grounds and interiors of the magical school.
It can be time-consuming to find each armor piece, but it ismore than worth it for Int/Dex-focused builds. There are four pieces to the set, but the one you’re probably looking for is the Lazuli Glintstone Crown.

The Lazuli Sorcerer Set pumps three free levels into Intelligence and Dexterity and is one of the best options for nimble sorcerers wandering the Lands Between.
11Carian Knight Armor Set
Magic users that are seeking a bit more protection than the raggedy fabrics that sorcerer’s attire usually provides should look no further than theCarian Knight Set.
A lot heftier than what typical mages would be used to, it’s one of the few medium-weight armors that are suitable for magic users. It offers lots of elemental and physical damage resistance, which allows for much more up-close-and-personal combat encounters. With all its opulent shiny jewels and chains, it’s also a great piece of fashion for would-be spellswords.

The more balanced approach to blunt-force and spell-based attacks also makes the Carian Knight Armor Set suitable for mid-game builds of other varieties.
10High Priest Set
Despite not including any additional attribute bonuses, theHigh Priest Setearns a spot among the best mage armor Elden Ring has to offer, purely on drip alone.
This is easily one of the most stunning armor sets that gives your Tarnished a regal appearance unlike any other.

Once youdefeat Ymir after his questand claim the armor set, you’ll have some of the coolest-looking mage armor Elden Ring can provide; it can even be altered to slightly change the appearance.
9Raya Lucarian Sorcerer Set
The Raya Lucarian Sorcerer set has the unique feature of being able to choose betweenfourvery powerful “Burger King”crowns that each come with a unique and powerful bonus.
TheKarolos Glintstone Crownis dropped by a Crystallized Crab outside the Debate Parlor in the academy courtyard andboosts Intelligence by three and decreases Stamina by nine percent. TheOlivinus Glintstone Crownboosts Intelligence by three and decreases HP by ten percentand can be found behind an illusory wall near the academy’s Schoolhouse Classroom.

TheWitch’s Glintstone Crownis rewarded at the end of Sellen’s questline andboosts Intelligence and Arcane by three, but decreases Stamina by 18 percent. By far the best of the bunch is theTwinsage Glintstone Crown, which gives a hugesix levels to Intelligence,at the cost of anine percent reduction to Stamina and HP.
Early on till about mid-game, this trade is more than worth the extra power.

8Errant Sorcerer Set
Another mage set, another “Burger King” styled helmet. The Errant Sorcerer armor can be found on two corpses whileexploring the Hermit Village on Mt. Gelmirand is a brilliant choice for hybrid magic users.
One of the armor’s most appealing features is the two-point buff to Intelligence and Endurance that is granted by theHierodas Glintstone Crown. Those two extra points in Endurance will allow you to experiment and wear slightly heavier set armor in the game, at the cost of a little FP.

7Spellblade Set
In regard to fashion and roleplay, it’ll be hard to beat theSpellblade Set. Dropped by Sorcerer Rogier in the Roundtable Hold after Ranni’s very lengthy questline, it’ll give you a nice buff (two percent per piece) to all weapon arts that deal magic damage.
This pairs particularly well with the powerful Ashes of War from theSword of Night and FlameandMoonveil.

Rogier himself sells a bunch of useful Glintstone Ashes of War that gain its benefit right off the bat, so make sure to clean out his stock before his eternal rest. Gone, but not forgotten.
6Battlemage Set
The Battlemage set’sHaima Glintstone Crowngives a nice boost to both Intelligence and Strength (at the cost of some of that precious FP), allowing for increased build diversity and weapon experimentation.
Despite what its name may suggest, the armor itself is pretty flimsy and lightweight, which opens up the possibility for you totry out some heavier intelligence weaponsyou may otherwise have missed. All four pieces of the set can be gathered by defeating (you guessed it) Battlemages over at East and West Windmill Pasture.
5Rakshasha Set
While it isn’t strictly an armor set designed for Mages, there’s no denying that theRakshasa Setis one ofthe best new armor sets in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
Of course, the armor isn’t visually indicative of a magic set, but it provides anexcellent bonus to your magic.
The Rakshasa setincreases all damage by ten percent(2.5 percent per piece) but also increases the damage taken. If you want to run a hybrid mage/perfumer build this armor set pairs well with the Perfume Bottle weapons, some ofthe best ranged weapons in Elden Ring’sShadow of the Erdtree DLC.
