It’s been a busy few weeks at the cinema between John Wick 4, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, and more hitting the big screen last month. Some stiff competition forDungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieveswhich debuted last weekend, but it’s off to a good start, topping both the UK and global box office.

The Dungeons & Dragons movie raked in £3.359 million in the UK during its first three days according to a press release. An impressive enough haul to see it top the pile ahead of all of the above and everything else you can see at the cinema right now. That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Honour Among Thieves' impressive start to life, though.

A quick look atThe Numbers' box office hauls for this past weekend reveals Dungeon’s & Dragons was also the highest-grossing movie in the US, pulling $38.5 million. Globally, the Chris Pine-led flick has grossed $71.5 million according toScreen Daily. Not too bad indeed and perhaps early evidence this won’t be the last Dungeons & Dragons movie we see set in this universe.

Honour Among Thieves likely won’t be pulling John Wick numbers, which has now grossed $245 million worldwide, but it doesn’t need to. It’s the first movie in a potential series for staters, not the fourth, but the success of its opening weekend propelling it to the top of the charts may well be an indicator Paramount wants to explore more Dungeons & Dragons movies going forward. No spoilers here, but not only is there naturally an almost endless universe to explore and spin movies from, but there are also plenty of details in the movie that could be built on and further explored in sequels.

You also really don’t need to have even a passing interest in Dungeons & Dragons to enjoy Honour Among Thieves. If you are new to its world and the film has ignited something in you, there are a lot of new ways to dive deeper into D&D right now.Pine’s character is now a part of Magic: The Gatheringvia a movie crossover with the card game, and there’s alsonew Minecraft DLC which lets you play through a D&D adventure.
