The DLC packs weren’t just limited to two new expansions to the single-player campaigns, but also included skins and collectibles that you could buy rather than earn through exclusive events or completing grindy challenges in-game. Some of the levels made use of the gameplay mechanics Doom is known for, while others just served as a stage for a final battle.

7The Dark Lord - Bland Yet Apposite

A glorified arena set to be considered the final stage for a bout between the slayer and The Dark Lord barely qualifies as a level, but it’s still the closing stage for a long-fought war between you and the forces of hell trying to take over the Earth. At least the transitions mid-combat are pretty cool, and you get to see a few places in hell phasing in for the background during your fight.

It’s a small ring, with barely enough items to interact with. The main focus is on fending off your final opponent and making him regret ever crossing paths with you. It’s only you, him, and a few unlucky minions to saw in half, so you can supply yourself with health and ammo.

6Reclaimed Earth - Nature Wins!

The Earth has regained its footing in the cosmic battle that ensued over its dominion. The plantlife has taken over a city you must travel through to find a way to Immora. The goal is simple, but the path to achieving it is littered with enemies ready to pounce at you.

The backgrounds are gorgeous and thedystopic city landscapesets in the realism and relatability the usual Doom levels lack because of their foreign architecture. For once, you get to jump from one tall building to the next while knowing that you’re on familiar ground on Earth. The skyscrapers and detailed rotting malls covered with all the foliage make this an interesting map to look at and appreciate the surroundings while you rampage through the city.

5The Holt - Freeway To Decay

Imagine lush greenery with supernatural forces controlling the jungle. Now envision playing through the collapse as you make your way to resurrect the biggest challenge you’ve faced yet. The Holt was once a sprawling jungle landscape, but with all the corruption, it’s just a decrepit labyrinth of woe and misery.

4The UAC Atlantica Facility - Cut And Dry

As boring as it is to go on errand quests where you look for items, this key-finding quest takes you through floating technological monoliths that harbor a mountain of demons looking to stop you on your journey. The stakes feel high enough to make stabbing and prodding away hellspawn fun and thrilling.

Kick off the campaign expansions with a bang, this level built up the hype and delivered solid punchy segments throughout. The close-quarters, fast-paced combat, and dark Matrix-like backgrounds make you feel like you’re ridding a futuristic oil rig of all of its demons.

The level design is fairly simple, with not a lot of puzzle-solving or platforming sequences. The emphasis is entirely on the action. It takes a fairly long time and it is rather tedious to get through to the key, but the cinematic cut to the underwater facility segment makes up for it.

3The Blood Swamps - Clouded Trepidation

With a green sky, an eery landscape, and torment all around, these swamps were a foggy mess to go through, with enemies loitering about at every corner. The atmosphere is as spooky as it can get and really benefited from the dystopian alien horror music that plays in the background.

The level design features some platforming sequences, but it’s mostly a series of areas meant for you to weave through and dodge bigger enemies that can potentially one-shot you. You traverse this labyrinth in order to make your way through the horde and to The Father’s tomb.

The Blood Swamps throw everything they have at you and ramp up the difficulty with every step. The green haze, the splattered guts of your enemies, and a general sense of feeling lost join together to amplify the gameplay and make this level rather hard to forget for any Doom fan.

2The World Spear - Relentless Chaos

Besides getting yourself an adorable pet by the end of it, the World Spear is a visually stunning masterpiece. You get to stroll through the woods and take in the beautiful backdrop as you pummel into all sorts of demons from hell.

1Immora - Unbridled Hype

Your escapades in hell finally lead you to charge head-first against the forces of The Dark Lord with an army of your own backing you up, as all of your forces lay siege to the first city of Hell. It’s one of the most fondly remembered stages in the game.

Immora, with its unique nightmarish landscape and memorable starting cutscene, is as iconic as it is fun to play. The music really set the tone in this one, slaying hordes of hellspawn while heavy metal plays in the background made the gameplay very heart-racing and engaging.
