Discordhas finally added a much requested feature, voice messaging. This basically allows you to send audio recordings directly to your friends, providing a new way to communicate, whether you need to quickly send a message or just want to share a funny comment. Voice messaging is only available on the mobile version of Discord, at least for the moment.
In order to use voice messaging, you first need to navigate to the direct message or server where you want to send the message, then press and hold the microphone button located on the right hand side of the chat box until you’re done recording. You can also swipe up to lock the recording mode in place before hitting send. You cancel a voice message by dragging your finger to the trash bin found on the left hand side of the screen.

While they can only be sent using the mobile app, voice messages can be heard on any device by clicking or tapping on the play button. The feature can be enabled or disabled on a given server by navigating to the settings and then toggling the button labeled Send Voice Messages.
“Voice messages give you the ability to send an audio recording directly to your friends,” Discord explained about the feature in a recentblog post. “For now, you can only send voice messages through a direct message, group direct message, or in a server with fewer than 200 members. These can be listened to on any device where you can access Discord, but can only be sent through the mobile app.”
When it comes to length, voice messages can be up to 20 minutes long. you’re able to’t upload your own audio file, something which is clearly intended to cut back on potentially problematic content, but in the case of anything offensive, you can report a voice message by right clicking on desktop or tapping and holding on mobile until a dialog box appears that says Report Message.
The addition of voice messaging has been met by the community as a welcome addition to the platform, providing a new way for users to communicate and express themselves on Discord. Whether you’re in a hurry or want to add some personality to your messages, the feature adds a brand new level of flexibility and convenience to the ever popular and consistently growing platform, bringing Discord more into line with competing programs like WhatsApp.
