Miles Morales has never been one to completely shatter the fourth wall, but he does occasionally show off his gamer cred. An upcoming variant cover for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #9 reveals his love for Capcom titles with a pose that mirrors Vergil from the Devil May Cry Series. We get a preview of the variant cover courtesy of illustrator Mateus Manhanini, whoposted the new cover over on Twitter. “Long time no see, Miles!” Manhanini wrote. “My Miles Morales: Spider-Man #9 Variant Cover, on sale June 23, 2025.“Related:Thank God Spider-Man 2 Isn’t Exploring The MultiverseAs noted by Twitter userSMGold_, Miles’ pose is exactly the same as Vergil’s from promotional art for Devil May Cry 5. That’s the one where he’s staring at the camera drawing his sword, Yamato. It’s also the same pose chosen for hisofficial statuette from Prime 1 Studio, which weighs over ten kilos and stands almost 60 cm tall. They’re definitely conversation starters if you could afford the $1,200 price tag.

A thread over onResetEranotes that this isn’t the first time Miles has paid tribute to a Capcom character. In Marvel’s Contest of Champions, Miles' “flurry of blows” move is essentially the same as Chun-Li’s countless kicks, her iconic move from the Street Fighter series. It seems Miles is a true Capcom fan. He might already bein on the Street Fighter 6 demo.

Of course, that very same ResetEra thread notes that Vergil’s pose is hardly unique. Geralt makes a very similar pose inpromotional art for The Witcher 3. That sort of ruins the “Miles is a Capcom fan” theory, but I don’t think it’s too out of character for him to also be a Witcher fan.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, that electric sword is a relatively new manifestation of his electric powers. He can focus them into a wicked-looking blade that can slice as well as electrocute.

Besides the ongoing comic series and the relatively recent PC release of the previous PlayStation exclusive, our next opportunity for getting to see Miles will come inSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the upcoming major motion picture that will be seen in theaters starting June 2. Taking up where the first Spider-verse movie leaves off, Miles will meet a whole new cast of alternate Spider-people that are protecting the Multiverse, but he eventually finds himself on the receiving end of his own spider powers as the rest of the Spider-verse turns on him in the face of a new threat.
