When you think ofDarth Maul, you think of a horned red villain with black markings across his face, adorned in a long robe, wielding a halberd, right? No? That’s probably because his signature weapon is a double-sided lightsaber. It was his whole thing back in The Phantom Menace.

Well, forget the lightsaber, becauseFortnitebundles its new Darth Maul skin with a halberd pickaxe, while Anakin comes with a fusioncutter. Again, that very iconic piece of kit he’s known to wield in the movies - remember the scene where Anakin smacked a bunch of younglings over the head with a flimsy engineering tool?

Fans are a little confused, so they’re once again calling on Epic Games to give Sith and Jedi their signature weapons. “What a joke, when are they going to just add lightsabers as pickaxes, think of the possibilities and customisation [options] we could have!” @BenJacksonSmith replied.

Others simply replied “L”, but there’s probably a reason for it.

Either there’s some kind of licensing agreement that prevents Epic Games from selling lightsabers, or it doesn’t want to confuse pickaxes andthe mythic weaponsyou can find duringStar Warsevents. If they look the same, there’s no telling if an enemy has a lethal weapon or a flimsy tool used for breaking down walls.

However, Wolverine’s claws are both a pickaxe and a weapon, with the models having noticeable differences to separate the two, and fans have long cited this as an example of how Fortnite can add lightsabers as a pickaxe instead of using loosely related tools.

Speaking of loosely related tools. The fusioncutter might be a little bit random, but Darth Maul’s weapon is pulled straight from the comics. It’s not his most iconic, and most fans probably haven’t seen it, but there’s a basis behind it. Fans still want to see him brandish his double-sided lightsaber, however.

“What the actual **** is Maul holding,” @harveyrogue7 replied.

“The axe looks cool… but it isn’t a Lightsaber,” @FireMas50921508 added.

While we still don’t have lightsaber pickaxes, Fortnite’s new Star Wars event is live right now. For 1,000 V-Bucks, you can buy the paid event pass that unlocks Darth Maul and his halberd, while Clone Troopers, Anakin, and Padme are available in the store.
