How To Breach The Fortress
The chapter opens with a narrow, one-way path. There’s a shed on the left where you canfind the Merchantand restock the supplies you used up during the siege at the end of the previous chapter. Loot the barrels and crates outside, then proceed through the gate at the end of the trail.
The next area has several walls that can be used as cover, both by Leon and the Ganados. The first enemy is on the left, facing away from youfor an easy stealth kill. The cultist beyond the next wall, carrying a torch, can also be eliminated quietly; it’s best to do so when he’sclose to the body of the first Ganadoso that you don’t risk alerting the others.

The stairs to the left lead to a scaffold with aYellow Diamondand a better vantage point. If you’re able to make it up here without raising the alarm, pick off as many Ganados as you canwith the rifle to make the impending fight easier.
The main threats in this area are thetwo Plagas and a Brute. Make use of grenades, mines, or the rifle’s ability to hit multiple targets to deal damage to the group as they approach so that you don’t get swarmed while dealing with the big guys.

The shed just ahead of the stairs, where a Ganado crouches with a flaming crossbow, contains alarge Resource packthat can be used to craft a Flash Grenade. Use this to easily dispatch the Plagas when they appear!
How To Find The Checkpoint Crank
Once the enemies are cleared out, be sure tofully search the areaas there is a lot of ammo and other goodies lying around. Just beware of thebear traps by the exit.
The first building on the left in the next area contains the Chalice of Atonement, a valuable treasure that willsell for a great price when fully upgraded with gems. There is a single Ganado waiting inside the door, to the right, to ambush you as you enter. He spawns a Plaga when killed, so be ready!

The path through the fortress continues in a long wooden tunnel -note the lantern hanging from the ceilingabout halfway through, and use it to ignite a group of Ganados if they chase you back this way.
The main gate is locked, sotake the left-hand pathto a wide area patrolled by two Ganados. There are a lot of pickups here for a place that’s so lightly guarded - eliminate both foes and pick the area clean, including theWayshrine in the rear corner. Be especially sure the get theYellow Herbon the left side of the platform where the male Ganado is watching.

The scaffolding will take you around behind the area’s main building, letting youdrop to an area with a side door.Shoot the lock off the door andcollect the First Aid Sprayon the table inside. verify your weapons are all fully loaded, thenapproach the far wallto take the crank on the shelf.
How To Defeat The Chainsaw Sisters
If you thought fighting a single chainsaw-wielding enemy was tough, taking on two at once is a nightmare. Both Sisters' attacks can beparried with the knife, but if even one gets through they willautomatically kill Leon.Keep your distance and stagger them withshotgun blasts and TMP bursts.Use any grenades you have to deal heavy damage to both at once, timing your throws to also kill nearby Ganados.
While you’re fighting the chainsaws, the other Ganados will attempt to abduct Ashley. You may need to abandon the main fight to give chase. To avoid this, have Ashleyhide in the locker by the doorbefore starting the battle.
At least two Ganados will spawn Plagas throughout the fight, so try to have a Flash Grenade on hand for when that happens. This is also a great way to stun the Chainsaw Sisters for a melee followup. Eventually, both Sisters will fall; one of them will drop the crank, which you need in order to continue.
How To Escape From Village Chief Mendez
Use the Checkpoint Crank on the gate. The path beyond leads to a collapsed house, which you can enter througha hole in the roofby going around the back. Collect all the items inside, then open the metal door to the next area by shooting the lock. A cutscene will trigger.
When gameplay resumes, flee from Mendez, shooting any Ganados that get in your way. The houses along the path do have items in them, but unless you’re far ahead of Mendez it’s too risky to try and collect them.
If Ashley is incapacitated, you need to help her up as soon as possible -Mendez will capture herif he reaches her.
The Ganados here are much less durable than the others, and most can be killed with a single headshot, even from the pistol. Use this and the red barrels along the path to your advantage.Keep movingand only stop to fire or reload if you have to - slowing down will ensure that Mendez catches you.
At the end of the path, the cultists will destroy the bridge ahead.Take a sharp leftand run out onto the wooden scaffolding along the cliff face to end the chase.
When the cutscene ends, walk forward to find the Merchant. He’s got a new shotgun available, the Riot Gun, and it’s worthtrading in your old W-870for the newer model. Do any other shopping that you like, and save at the typewriter.
Enter the building ahead andpick up the Red Herb to the right of the door. After you turn the corner, Mendez will attack again, this time assuming his Plaga form for a boss fight.

How To Win The Boss Fight Against Village Chief Mendez
Start the battle byimmediately climbing the ladder to the leftand gathering the items upstairs. You won’t be able to climb up here when the fire progresses, so get them now!
The first stage of the battle is similar to the fight with El Gigante earlier - watch for indicators to dodge his attacks, and attack him whenever you can. The new Riot Gun is great for this. Aim for his head and torso to stagger him and deal heavy damage with a melee attack while he’s down.
When Mendez mutters the word, “Judgment,” he’s preparing a spin attack;climb the ladderto avoid it.
When the second phase begins, the flames engulfing the building will start to close in, limiting your movement. Mendez will startthrowing burning planks at you.If he readies two at once, stay in the center of the roomto avoid them. If he readies one but keeps the other back, move all the way to the left or rightthen quickly sprint in the other direction as he throws to avoid the first plank and the second one he immediately follows up with.
When Mendez readies a red barrel, shoot it to blow it up in his face.
After he takes some damage, Mendez will move back to the foreground. Evade his attacks as indicated andkeep shooting himuntil he falls to the ground, where you’re able to knife him.
Repeat this process until Mendez is defeated. Pick up his eye, thenleave through the window to the left.Back outside, follow the path uphill. When you first see the castle, look up; there’s a cask in the tree above with an Emerald inside. Finally, cross the drawbridgeto enter Castle Salazar and proceed to the next chapter.
