Making your way through the mines isn’t easy, but luckily we’ve charted a path that will get you back above ground with ease. Follow this guide to navigate the tunnels and overcome all the enemies that you encounter. Maybe you’ll even find some Treasures along the way to upgrade your gear!

How To Clear The Blocked Tunnel

The Merchant is waiting in the very first room of the chapter, complete with a new game in the Shooting Gallery. He also has new stock, as usual for the beginning of a chapter; if you’re using the Matilda pistol, you may alsotrade Spinels for a stockthat allows it to fire three-round bursts.

When you’re ready, climb up the ladderto the right of the Merchant’s desk. Smash the barrels to the right and collect the loot within, then turn around and take the tunnel to the left.

The main passage is blocked, so take theside tunnel to the righttoward Storeroom M-4. When you vault over the yellow guardrail at the end of the path, a fight will ensue. Try using the rifle totake out as many Ganados as you canfrom the starting point, then switch to close-range weapons when a chainsaw shows up. Watch for Ganados with dynamite - detonating their bombs early is a great way toclear groupsand heavily damage the chainsaw.

Take the Green Herb in the far left corner andloot the barrelunder the right-hand platform, then take the stairs on the left. When you enter the structure at the top, another chainsaw will immediately attack from the right. Parry her strike, then quickly eliminate her with repeated shots.

Pull the switch on the control panel that the chainsaw was guarding, then take the stairs to the basement for a quick escape; more Ganados will be coming from behind you!

Use the other staircase to reach the storeroom, which was opened by the switch you used. There are three more Ganados guarding the storeroom; deal with them, then take the Dynamite and other loot inside.

Return to the dead end anduse the Dynamiteto clear the rubble. In the likely event that your knife or armor took heavy damage during the fight, it’s worthstopping back at the Merchantfor repairs first.

After lighting the explosives, run straight back down the tunneluntil you hear the rubble stop moving to avoid being caught in the partial cave-in.

Walk around the rubble to the left (Luis automatically takes this path, making it easy to spot) and through the newly-opened tunnel. At the fork, loot the crates to the rightthen use the left-hand path to reach the next area.

How To Defeat The Two Gigantes

In the foundry, you’ll have to fighttwo Gigantes, one of whom is clad head-to-toe in bulletproof armor. There’s an easy way to handle this fight, and a hard way that yields an Achievement / Trophy. In both cases, start byignoring the armored Gigante. Focus fire on the unarmored one until its Plaga appears; you can kill it the same way you did the original boss back in the village. Alternately, if you stun the monster in thecenter of the floor, you can throw the switch on the control panel todrop it into the molten steel.

Once the first Gigante is dead, you need to play a bit of a waiting game. If you’re cornered, be ready to dodge. You can also put some initial damage on the boss byshooting him in the chin, the only unarmored part of him.

Eventually, Luis will flee and return with some dynamite, which heattaches to the Gigante’s back.Shoot the bundle to break his armor, exposing his Plaga. Again, you can either kill the boss bydestroying the Plagaordropping him into the molten steel.

If you kill both Gigantes through conventional means, without using the lava, you’ll receive theNo Hot Bath For You!Achievement / Trophy.

How To Survive The Mine Cart Rides

After the fight, boost Luisthrough the hole to the left of the steel doors. He’ll unlock them from the other side. Search the room beyond for supplies, then start climbing the stairs. Follow the tunnel at the top; in the next room, save at the typewriter on the left-hand sidethen hop in the mine cart.

In this section, you need tolean into turnsto keep the cart from flipping over. Pay attention to Luis’s lines, as he’ll give you a heads-up when you need toshoot blocking planksorchange tracksby hitting an oncoming switch.

About a third of the way through, you’ll start seeing Ganados on parallel tracks - they only take one shot to eliminate, but aiming can be tricky. Aim for the enemies themselves, rather than their carts, anduse red barrelsto your advantage when you see them.

Watch the tracks ahead after the first set of red barrels - there’s a Ganado standing on the track with a lit stick of dynamite!

At the end of the mine cart sequence, climb the stairs and fight the Ganados blocking your path. Take the side path to the right to find achest with a Flagonand a Clockwork Castellan inside the structure. Gather everything, then climb into the second mine cart at the end of the path.

Lean to the right for the big turn at the start of the sequence. Don’t bother trying to shoot the chainsaw wielder just yet - focus on the crossbows instead. The first set can beeasily eliminated by hitting the red barrels on the right, but you’ll need to eliminate the group to the left one-by-one. Shoot them fromleft to rightto avoid damage, since that’s the order in which they’ll fire.

Once the crossbows are dealt with, shoot the Ganado on the tracks aheadand be ready to shoot through a barricade afterward. You’ll only have a short window between leaning into turns!

When you see the castle, shoot the red barrels aheadto clear the path;shoot Doctor Salvadorwhen he pulls up alongside you to avoid his chainsaw attacks, but don’t bother trying to actually kill him. As soon as he’s out of range, focus on the crossbows instead.

If you manage to get through both mine cart sequences without taking any damage at all, you’ll earn theHope You Like Thrill Rides!Achievement / Trophy.

How To Get Through The Novistador Hive

After disembarking, save at the typewriter on the rightthen cross the bridge toward the lift. It will break halfway across, forcing you to jump down to the lower level. At the fork, carefully approach the room on the right. The suspicious-looking rock in the path is a camouflaged Novistador - kill it and the other bugs that appear from below.

Take the Yellow Herb on the right-hand side of the room and check the Merchant Request posted on the wall - you can earn Spinels bydestroying the entrances to the Novistador Hive.Look for pulsating yellow nodules along the cavern ceiling, andshoot them repeatedly to destroy them. You can see two from the ledge that you entered from, and the other two in the area beyond the room with the request.

Stay along the right-hand wall. When you see a full mine cart, look for apitch-black passage to the side. There’s a chest at the end with a Gold Bar. Collect it, then return to the main path.

In the next open area, look for a small passage on the rightthat you can crouch through. The Merchant is inside, so you can turn in the Request and get some repairs done if need be.

Just past the Merchant’s room is the lift. Be sure that your combat knife is equipped and fully repaired, then press the button to trigger a boss fight.

How To Win The Knife Fight Against Krauser

Focus more on parrying than attacking - Krauser’s strikes come in rapid succession, so you need to block them to stay alive. Successfully parrying a full sequence willstagger Krauser, allowing you to knock him down with a melee followup and get a few good slashes in yourself.

When Krauser jumps into the air, healways lands directly behind Leon.Turn around immediately to defend yourself. If he drops low, be ready to hit the Evade button to avoid his sweeping kick.

Unlike most enemies, Krauser’s grapples can’t be countered with a knife attack - you’ll need tobutton-mashin order to escape. The exception is when he knocks Leon over the edge of the arena - in these cases, you canstab him in the legas you pull yourself back up.

In an emergency, you can grab theRed and Green Herbsto the right of your starting position.
