Each villager is assigned a role when they first join the valley.

Once their role is chosen, they can tag along with you while you’re collecting materials and reward you with bonus materials. The higher their friendship level, the more resources you’ll gain. However, it quickly became an issue that players wanted to be able to change villager roles.

How To Craft Role Books

Crafting each book requires a lot of different materials.The book’s crafting resources relate to the book you’re crafting. For example, if you’re crafting a gardening role book, you’ll need to supply vegetables, or rocks and gems for a mining role book. Each book also requires5,000 Dreamlight, too - quite a lot if you’ve only recently started playing.

How To Change A Villager Role

A villager can only change their role atlevel 10 friendship. This still means that choosing their initial role needs to fit your ideas for them when they join the valley. For example, if you want to speed-level them, then gardening or mining are still your ideal roles. However, once they’ve been living in the valley for a while, you mightprefer to change up which boosts they can offer you.

Of course, it’s also likely that if you started playing the game when it was first released, you likely chose some roles out of interest and only later realised they weren’t right.

Once you have crafted the correct book, you need tokeep the book in your inventoryand seek out the villager whose role you want to change. Start up a conversation and choose togive them a gift.Gift them the bookand their role will instantly switch to the new chosen role.
