All eyes are on CD Projekt at the moment, as the developer is in the midst of multiple major projects. Cyberpunk 2077, which finally seems to have redeemed itself, will soon be getting aDLC called Phantom Liberty. Further down the pipeline, CDP has announced a co-op game set in the Witcher universe, aremake of the first game, and thenext mainline game in the series.
While there’s been someback and forth on the co-op game, there arevery few detailson the next mainline game, dubbed Project Polaris. CDP has been vocal that the project is not ‘Witcher 4’, but it seems one of their own just referred to it as such during a recentfinancial earnings call(thanksGamesRadar).

While discussing the progress on Project Polaris, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński mentioned that the team is still in the preparation phase. Many devs are still learning the tools, while others have been in touch with Epic, since the game will bebuilt in Unreal, as opposed to REDengine. Considering this is uncharted territory for CDP, Kiciński said progress may be a bit slow.
“But for the next project, we assume that it should smooth the production,” he continued. “That was one of the reasons behind the strategy, that we want to release three big Witcher games within six years, starting from the release of Polaris, which is Witcher 4.”
It must be noted that this is not an official confirmation by CDP that Polaris is indeed The Witcher 4. We all have been calling it Witcher 4 just for the ease and convenience, and Kiciński likely used the term in a similar manner on the call. It would be a bit unfair to jump to conclusions based on this one instance.
However, probably just to cover all ends, CD Projekt sent out an email to clarify the situation. “This was actually a slip of the tongue,” said a representative. “Polaris will be the first game in a new Witcher saga. The saga will consist of three games.” It seems that we’ll just have to wait to find out what Polaris finally is.
