Sons Of The Foresthas a very sizable map that has plenty of resources and enemies dispersed throughout. The beauty of this is the freedom it lends to choosing your base, but it also opens the gates to complications and mistakes that make survival much harder than it has to be.
It’s good to have various options when picking a spot to build your base so that you can have your pick of different biomes and resources. Here are some of the best places to build the perfect fortress or a nice little safe house free of any issues.

A Quick, Temporary Base
View this spot on the map.
This spot is not far from the VIP bunker, though you’ll want to collect all you may before entering that bunker even if you haveall the necessary keycards. Abandoned houses are a good space if you don’t want to build your structures completely. It can save you time and resources to build fencing around these houses and add the needed structures.
It’s a nice safe point of return in the end-game stages when you start going back and forth toward the bunkers and facing off stronger cannibals. You can find this around the upper East section of the map.

Plenty Of Space And Resources
The map’s northeast section has a vast golf course and ample grounds for base building. You have a lot of flat land to work with and enough trees and sticks to gather building resources. The best spot here is the area by the pond near the dig site that leads to Maintenance C.
This exact spot is near a reliable water source and is just a short walk from the discoverable revolver. Aside fromthe good weapon find, it’s also just an easy spot where you can have a good visual of your surroundings for patrolling.

Great Views And Resource Adjacent
By the Northwestern section of the map, you’ll find a big body of water with a broken boat on the edge. When viewing it from the map, it should resemble a profile that looks almost like Squidward from Spongebob. There are two spots here that work excellently, depending on your main goal.
The first spot gives you a nice lakeside view, making it easier to keep an eye onVirginia if you’re trying to build affinity. It’s also got ample resources around, with a decent distance from points of interest and useful items like a 3D printer by the South and a keycard, crossbow, dress, and shotgun rail by the North.

An Island Fortress
If you want the same benefits of the Squidward Lake but seek out even more impenetrability (as there are nearby cannibals that will keep coming back), then you’ll want to build your base on the island at the center of the lake. Since they cannot swim, you are pretty much safe here.
Although you can easily build a bridgeway, you’ll be even harder to reach if you build zip lines. This provides easy entry and exit should you need to get food and water without giving your enemies a means to get near. The zipline also has the added benefit of easy log hauling from outside the lake to the center.

Of course, the lake defense does become useless in the winter when it freezes over. It’s best to build a fence around it for good measure. It’s also worth noting that Kelvin won’t be able to go to this base unless you build a non-zip line bridge.
A Solid Base Near Key Items
This isn’t the beach that you can potentially crash on, but it’s a solid base choice because of its proximity to a pistol and GPS locator. This can be very useful to have early on, and you’ll even have access to water sources with oysters and fish.
It’s best to be wary of the shark nearby, though you can purposely taunt it if you want a certain Jaws-related achievement. This is a relatively safe spot regardless of the season and allows you a pretty clear path toward the rope gun and cross further into the forest.

Difficult To Build, But Impenetrable
This base requires some patience to build, considering its steep position. You’ll need a rope gun to comfortably get up to the spot on the snowy mountains (unless you want to climb), and building at least three zipline bases will help you easily transport logs for building. This base lends youa gorgeous view of the environmentand gives you great leverage over enemies, as they will be hard-pressed to reach you from this vantage point.
It may seem like a tight fit, but you should have enough room to build sleeping arrangements and storage for your collected items, along with seedbeds and a birdhouse. You may also feel more comfortable here if you have the 3D-printed sled.
