What Are Catalysts?

Every Alchemy reciperequires a single Catalystas a base material. Most simply provide a little bit of Essence to start you off, but rare and valuable Catalysts can improve the recipe’s yield.

The Catalyst is combined with one or more Ingredients, and the recipe’s product is determined by thetotal Essence of all the components. As long as the Essence requirements for the item you’re trying to craft are met, the exact Catalyst that you use doesn’t matter.

Alchemist Strategy Tips

Offensive items like Potions of Firebreathing or Sacred Water make the Alchemist a fearsome combatant. Having a large supply of them lets yousupplant your units' basic attacks entirely. This is especially true of units and heroes that inflict status effects with their attacks.

For example, a unit with Serrated Blades has a chance to inflict Bleeding with all their attacks. This includes item attacks. Hence, a unit with Serrated Blades that throws a vial of Sacred Water into a horde of Undead not only damages them, but also inflicts Bleeding on them all at once!

Summoning Elementals is a great way to even the odds in a battle where you’re outnumbered. Units summoned this wayalways disappear after the battle, so don’t be afraid to sacrifice them during the fight!

By default, Alchemists specialize in Nature Magic. It’s a good idea to keep Nature as your Primary School, since it provides easy ways to fill the Alchemy Page in your Grimoire. You can alsoharvest Primordial Foreststhat you grow with spells to get useful Ingredients!
